Doctoral Program (S-3)

The Doctoral Program in Medical Science of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is the highest level of higher education in the medical science field. This program is designed with the latest curriculum and supported by expert and qualified lecturers and international standards.

Through a series of lessons provided, this program aims to train students to contribute to the development of medical theory and conduct high-quality research to support the advancement of medical science at large. Graduates of this study program will be awarded the Doctor (Dr.) degree.

History

1996

The Doctoral (S3) Program in Medical Science at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), was established based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of National Education (Ditjen DIKTI Depdiknas) No. 519/DIKTI/Kep/1996, dated November 12, 1996.

2002

To support the smooth learning process, the USU Rector's Decree No. 588/J05/SK/KP/2002 concerning the Appointment of Members of the Scientific Group for the Doctoral (S3) Program in Medical Science at the USU Faculty of Medicine was also issued.

2009

Subsequently, based on the Decree of the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara No. 17015/H5.1.R/SK/SPB/2009, dated September 1, 2009, concerning the Transfer of Management of the Master's Program in Biomedical Science, Tropical Medicine, and the Doctoral Program in Medical Science from the Graduate School to the USU Faculty of Medicine, the management of the Doctoral Program in Medical Science was officially transferred to the USU Faculty of Medicine. Through this program, the USU Faculty of Medicine is expected to contribute to the development of science, particularly in the fields of tropical medicine, molecular oncology, as well as technology and innovation that address community needs. Thus, this program is expected to support health development at both national and international levels.

To produce doctoral graduates in medical sciences who think critically, act with integrity, are attentive to advancements in science and technology, and are sensitive to societal issues.
To equip graduates to become leaders in the development of medical science as managers, researchers, and educators, with strong scientific reasoning, ethics, and morals, both independently and in teams.
To enhance graduates' ability to interact with stakeholders and the healthcare industry by utilizing communication, information technology, and hypermedia, aligned with USU's vision of being a University for Industry.
