The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FM USU), held the Doctor Inauguration Ceremony for the Second Period of the 2024/2025 Academic Year at the 3rd Floor Auditorium of FM USU. A total of 13 new doctors were officially inaugurated and took the Physician's Oath in a solemn ceremony held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
The ceremony was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine USU, Prof. Dr. dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe, Sp.S(K), followed by Vice Dean II of FM USU, Dr. dr. Muara Panusunan Lubis, M.Ked(OG), Sp.OG(K), who led the Physician's Oath-taking ceremony.
In his remarks, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine USU, Prof. Dr. dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe, Sp.S(K), stated that the Physician's Oath ceremony witnessed that day represented the new doctors' commitment to serving society. He emphasized that the oath should not merely be recited but should always be remembered, as the spiritual commitment contained within the oath carries profound meaning for every graduate throughout their lives.
“As Alumni of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, you are expected to always work to the best of your abilities. Work professionally according to your competencies while upholding ethics and complying with all applicable regulations. Be agents of change in your respective communities. Uphold the good name of your alma mater and bring honor to the Faculty of Medicine USU in society,” said Prof. Aldy.
This message is in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being, through an emphasis on professionalism, competence, ethics, and the commitment of doctors to providing quality healthcare services and contributing to improved health and well-being in society.
In his remarks, Chair of the FM USU Alumni Association (IKA), dr. Zainal Safri, M.Ked(PD)., Sp.PD-KKV., Sp.JP(K)., said, “On behalf of IKA, I would like to congratulate the young doctors who have been inaugurated today. This inauguration is one of the most special moments in your lives. We are ready to welcome and guide you by offering free training programs, webinars, and seminars. These programs are intended to help young doctors obtain additional professional credit units (SKP).”
The provision of ongoing training and professional development also supports SDG 4: Quality Education, particularly by promoting lifelong learning, continuous professional development, and capacity building for doctors after completing their medical education.
The remarks were followed by a speech from the representative of the parents of the newly inaugurated doctors, Dr. Ir. M. Sabri, M.T., IPM Asean Eng, who congratulated the new doctors on their remarkable achievement, which was not easy to accomplish but was a source of great pride for their parents. He also encouraged them to embrace the wide career opportunities ahead and become compassionate medical professionals dedicated to humanity.
“The role of parents is very important in providing education to our children until they successfully earn their medical degrees through this physician's oath ceremony. I would also like to express my gratitude to the entire Faculty of Medicine USU academic institution, as well as the hospitals, community health centers, and everyone involved in the educational process of our children,” said M. Sabri.
