The USU Faculty of Medicine hosted the “1st Medan International Conference on Biomedical Science (MICOBIOS),” held from Wednesday to Friday, November 6 - 8, 2024. This conference activity was also accompanied by the activities of TEMILNAS IX & RAKERNAS XIV KIBI and TEMILNAS & RAKORNAS IKAFARI.
This activity is divided into three parts: the Pre-conference Workshop on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, in the Discussion Room and Integrated Lab. FK, followed by a Symposium on Thursday, November 7, 2024, in the FK 3rd Floor Hall, and the last day, a Free Paper and Poster Presentation (scientific competition) on Friday, November 8, 2024, in the FK 3rd Floor Hall.
The Pre-conference Workshop went seamlessly. Several speakers were present, including MERCK Indonesia, a pharmaceutical company. The activity continued with Lab tests at the USU FK Integrated Laboratory.
The Symposium activity was opened by Moderator dr. rer. med. dr. M. Ichwan, M.Sc., Sp. KKLP., Chairperson of the Committee & Head of the Biomedical Science Master Program. He explained that this activity could be carried out in collaboration with the FK USU Biomedical Master Study Program with various national institutions, including the Indonesian Pharmacology Association (IKAFARI) and the Indonesian Biomedical Science Consortium (KIBI). Dr. M. Ichwan said, “The results of this technology are also applied directly to patients in daily health services, so it is not only done in the laboratory.”
Vice Rector III of USU, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt, also attended this activity, representing the USU Rector who could not attend in his remarks. WR III said that this theme is very relevant to the latest developments in the health field, especially in integrating genomics and metabolomics, which now play an important role in biomedical research.
The chairman of KIBI, Prof. Dr. rer. Nat. Dra. Asmarinah, MS, responded that this conference not only showcases the latest research developments in the biomedical field but also strengthens the scientific network among academics and practitioners from various countries.
Participants at this conference also came from several countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Germany, and Australia, and 19 universities in Indonesia were present. Also present was the Vice Consulate of Japan in Medan, Suzuki Yushi, as part of USU's cooperation with Kitakyushu.
