After 25 years since completing their education, alumni of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), Class of 2001, returned to their alma mater through a reunion activity entitled “Back to Campus”. Held on September 19, 2026, at the 4th Floor Hall of FK USU, the silver reunion became a special moment for the alumni to reminisce about their journey during their education while strengthening the bonds of friendship that had been established since their university days.

The Reunion Committee Chairperson stated that the “Back to Campus” activity provided an opportunity for alumni to reunite after spending many years pursuing their respective journeys after completing their education at FK USU. In addition to serving as a moment of nostalgia, the activity was expected to strengthen the sense of family and build closer networks among alumni.

The series of activities began with a Faculty Tour, which served as part of retracing the alumni's journey during their medical education. The alumni were invited to revisit several laboratory facilities and lecture rooms that had once been part of their daily lives. The visit brought back various stories, experiences, and memories of togetherness that had been part of their journey as FK USU students.

The activity then continued with the Gathering Reunion Night, which was held at the Faculty of Medicine USU Hall. The event was filled with a warm and familiar atmosphere. The alumni had the opportunity to share stories about their respective journeys, reminisce about their experiences during their education, and strengthen the bonds of friendship that had been established over the past 25 years.

The event began with remarks from the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation and Internationalization, Prof. Dr. dr. Dina Keumala Sari, M.Gizi, Sp.GK, Subsp.PK, who attended as the representative of the Dean of FK USU. In her remarks, Prof. Dina expressed her appreciation for the presence and initiative of the FK USU Class of 2001 Alumni to revisit their alma mater. The presence of the alumni was considered an important part of maintaining the relationship between graduates and the institution while strengthening the sense of family that had been established since their time as students.

In addition to serving as a moment of friendship, the reunion was also marked by the presentation of an alma mater contribution from the FK USU Class of 2001 Alumni to the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara. The contribution represented the alumni's concern and contribution to the alma mater, which had been an important part of their educational and professional journey. The alma mater contribution also reflected the alumni's commitment to continuing to provide benefits and contribute to the development of FK USU.

The alumni reunion activity was also related to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, particularly in maintaining relationships between educational institutions and graduates. Alumni networks can form part of a sustainable education ecosystem through the exchange of experiences and knowledge, as well as alumni contributions to the development of education and the next generation of students.

In addition, the “Back to Campus” activity also supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through strengthening networks and partnerships between alumni and their alma mater. Sustainable relationships can open opportunities for collaboration in various fields, including education, professional development, social activities, research, and community service.

Through this silver reunion, the FK USU Class of 2001 Alumni not only returned to reminisce about the past but also strengthened their relationship with their alma mater and rebuilt networks among fellow alumni. “Back to Campus” served as a reminder that the educational journey at FK USU does not end after graduation but continues through relationships, contributions, and togetherness that remain strong.
