Medan, September 2, 2026 — The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), once again achieved an important milestone in the development of specialist and subspecialist medical education through the inauguration and introduction of participants in the Specialist Medical Education Program (PPDS) and Subspecialist Program in Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine. The event was held at Tiara Convention Center, Medan.
The event marked a historic moment for FK USU with the inauguration of two doctors who are the first alumni of the Subspecialist Medical Education Program (Sp-2) in Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine. In addition, 15 pulmonology and respiratory medicine specialists were also inaugurated.
On the same occasion, three participants of the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine Subspecialist Program and nine participants of the Specialist Program in Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine were introduced as they prepared to continue their education at FK USU. The arrival of these new students represents an important part of the regeneration and continuity of specialist and subspecialist medical education at FK USU.
Representing the Dean of FK USU was the Vice Dean for Education, Student Affairs, and Alumni, Prof. dr. Ayodhia Pitaloka Pasaribu, M.Ked(Ped), Sp. A(K), Ph.D(CTM). In her remarks, Prof. Ayodhia expressed her appreciation to the graduates and all parties who contributed to the implementation of education in pulmonology and respiratory medicine.
“The inauguration of the first two alumni of the Subspecialist Medical Education Program in Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine is a very meaningful milestone for FK USU. We hope that the graduates will apply the knowledge and competencies they have acquired while upholding professionalism, integrity, and concern for the community,” she said.
To the new students, Prof. Ayodhia encouraged them to undertake their educational journey with discipline, perseverance, and a strong sense of responsibility.
“Welcome to the FK USU family. Make the most of this educational process to build your competencies and character. May you eventually become outstanding specialist and subspecialist doctors who can make meaningful contributions to improving public health.”
This achievement aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being through strengthening the healthcare workforce and improving the quality of healthcare services, particularly in the fields of pulmonary and respiratory diseases. The activity also supports SDG 4: Quality Education through the provision of high-quality and continuous medical education. Furthermore, the synergy among FK USU, teaching hospitals, faculty members, students, and various stakeholders reflects SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals in supporting the development of medical education and healthcare services.
Through the inauguration of graduates and the welcoming of new students, FK USU reaffirms its commitment to continuously producing competent and professional healthcare professionals who are able to contribute meaningfully to improving the health and well-being of the community.
