To commemorate the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), participated in the 81st Independence Day Commemoration Ceremony held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the Rectorate Bureau Courtyard of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU).
In the address of the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Brian Yuliarto, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., which was delivered by the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., it was emphasized that universities have a role that extends far beyond providing education and producing graduates. Higher education institutions are expected to help shape an outstanding and integrity-driven generation of Indonesians equipped with knowledge and technology, a strong sense of national pride, and the courage to contribute to and take responsibility for Indonesia’s progress.
Furthermore, universities are expected to serve as centers for research, technological development, and innovation. Research ecosystems within higher education institutions are expected to generate strategic innovations in areas ranging from food technology, energy, and healthcare to semiconductors, artificial intelligence, advanced materials, and various forms of deep technology that play an important role in strengthening national competitiveness and shaping the country’s future.
The participation of the FK USU academic community in the ceremony served as an opportunity to honor the struggles and sacrifices of the nation’s heroes while fostering a spirit of nationalism, solidarity, and patriotism. The Independence Day commemoration also reminded the entire academic community to continue making meaningful contributions through their duties and service in education, research, and community engagement.
Through the commemoration of the 81st Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, FK USU reaffirmed its commitment to fostering national spirit while strengthening a culture of service and academic excellence. The spirit of independence is expected to continue to be reflected through meaningful work, innovation, and dedication to advancing quality medical education and creating positive impacts for society.
