Medan, January 21, 2025 – The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FM USU), held an inauguration ceremony for Pediatric Specialists at the Tiara Convention Centre in Medan. The event marked an important milestone in recognizing eight doctors who had successfully completed their specialist training and fulfilled the requirements to become Pediatric Specialists.
The event was attended by Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Medicine USU, Dr. dr. Delyuzar, M.Ked(PA), Sp.PA(K); Director of H. Adam Malik General Hospital and Chair of the Education Coordination Committee, Dr. dr. Iskandar Nasution, MKM, Sp.S, FINS.; Chair of the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) of North Sumatra, dr. Ramlan Sitompul; Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Dr. dr. Bugis Mardina Lubis, M.Ked(Ped), Sp.A(K); Secretary of the Department of Pediatrics, dr. Ika Citra Dewi Tanjung, M.Ked(Ped), Sp.A(K); Head of the Pediatric Study Program, Prof. dr. Ayodhia Pitaloka, M.Ked(Ped), Sp.A(K), Ph.D(CTM); Secretary of the Pediatric Study Program, dr. Olga Rasiyanti Siregar, M.Ked(Ped), Sp.A(K); as well as other members of the academic community.
In his remarks, Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Medicine USU, Dr. dr. Delyuzar, M.Ked(PA), Sp.PA(K), emphasized that in the era of globalization, healthcare professionals, including Pediatric Specialists, are expected to continuously improve the quality of medical services, keep up with developments in science and technology, and apply them in addressing various health challenges.
He specifically highlighted childhood stunting as one of the ongoing public health challenges. Strengthening the competencies of pediatric specialists is expected to support promotive and preventive efforts, as well as the diagnosis and management of various health problems affecting children.
“I hope our colleagues will continue to follow developments in medical services and advances in science and technology so that they can address health challenges, particularly childhood stunting,” he said.

The strengthening of pediatric healthcare capacity is in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being, particularly in supporting improved healthcare quality and child well-being. The availability of competent pediatric specialists is expected to contribute to the prevention and management of various childhood health problems, including stunting, while supporting the development of a healthier and more resilient generation.
Furthermore, the inauguration of these specialists reflects the Faculty of Medicine USU’s commitment to supporting SDG 4: Quality Education through the provision of high-quality specialist medical education that produces professional, competent, and adaptable healthcare professionals. Continuous education and professional development are essential to ensuring the availability of high-quality healthcare services for communities.
The Faculty of Medicine USU extends its congratulations and best wishes to the eight newly inaugurated Pediatric Specialists. May the knowledge, competencies, and experience gained throughout their specialist training enable them to make meaningful contributions to society and play an active role in improving the health and well-being of children in Indonesia.
