Saturday (14/12/2024) The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), held an event for the Awarding of Brevet or Internal Medicine Specialist Expertise Marks as well as the Introduction of Participants in the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) and New Subspecialists of the Department of Internal Medicine. This event was held at the Le Polonia Hotel, Sudirman Ballroom. This event was attended by 10 new specialist doctors and the introduction of 13 new PPDS in the field of internal medicine.

Also present at this activity were the Vice Chancellor I of USU, Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., dr. Zulham, M.Biomed., Ph.D., representing the Dean of FK USU, Director of Haji Adam Malik Hospital, dr. Zainal Safri, Sp.PD KKV, Sp.JP (K), Head of the Internal Medicine Study Program, FK USU, Dr. dr. Taufik Sungkar, M.Ked (PD), Sp.PD KGEL, FINASIM., and his staff.

 

Vice Rector I of USU congratulated the new specialist doctors and their parents who have supported their long struggle during their education.

 

"With the increasing number of specialist doctors, especially in the Department of Internal Medicine, USU has contributed to increasing access to quality health care, supporting the government's vision to create a healthy and prosperous Indonesian society," said Dr. Edy.

 

The Dean of the USU Faculty of Medicine, represented by dr. Zulham, M.Biomed., Ph.D., conveyed a message to all new PPDS to always be able to maintain the good name of the alma mater and continue to develop their abilities, both as medical personnel and leaders in the community.

 

"We hope that these specialist doctors will become not only health service providers (caregivers) but also decision-makers, community leaders, and managers who can create a sustainable health ecosystem," said dr. Zulham.

 

The Director of Haji Adam Malik Hospital, dr. Zainal Safri, Sp.PD KKV, Sp.JP(K), added that the presence of specialist doctors is very important in supporting the distribution of health services in remote areas. He encouraged graduates to return to their hometowns to help meet the need for medical personnel that is evenly distributed throughout Indonesia.

 

"We also support further development through fellowship at RSUP Haji Adam Malik so that doctors can continue to improve their competence in more in-depth areas of specialization," said dr. Zainal.

 

Then, remarks from the Head of the Internal Medicine Study Program, USU Medical Faculty, Dr. dr. Taufik Sungkar, M.Ked (PD), Sp.PD KGEL, FINASIM, continued, emphasizing the importance of the USU Medical Faculty's role in producing superior specialists in tropical and infectious diseases. One way to achieve this is through collaboration with foreign institutions such as Taiwan and Korea to send students to study and broaden their horizons.

 

Fulfilling the need for health workers, especially doctors is expected to help overcome existing health problems with maximum effort. In this case, it is hoped that the Department of Internal Medicine graduates who were inaugurated today will join the specialist doctor empowerment program, a government breakthrough to fulfill and equalize the need for specialist doctors in the regions.
