The Heads and Secretaries of Departments and Study Programs within the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), were officially inaugurated for the 2026–2031 term in a ceremony led directly by the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si. Held on the 8th floor of the Digital Learning Center Building (DLCB) at USU, the inauguration followed the university-wide appointment of department and study program leaders across Universitas Sumatera Utara.
The ceremony marked an important milestone in strengthening academic governance and leadership within FK USU as part of the faculty's ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of education, research, and community service.
In his remarks, the Rector emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination at the faculty level to ensure that all academic programs remain aligned with the vision of Universitas Sumatera Utara. He highlighted the need for department and study program leaders to continuously improve their competencies, foster collaboration, and cultivate an academic culture that is responsive to the rapid advancement of science and technology.
The Rector further noted that the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents both challenges and opportunities for higher education institutions to continue innovating. He stressed that curriculum renewal aligned with future workforce demands is essential to ensure graduates possess competencies relevant to the evolving needs of society and industry.
In addition, he encouraged stronger collaboration among faculty members in education, research, and community engagement to enhance academic excellence further. He also called on all study programs to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset among students, enabling them to become innovative, independent graduates who can create opportunities amid global challenges.
For the Faculty of Medicine USU, this inauguration represents a strategic effort to reinforce academic leadership at the department and study program levels. With professional, collaborative, and quality-driven leadership, FK USU remains optimistic about producing graduates who are academically excellent, uphold strong ethical values, and are well-prepared to compete at both national and international levels, in line with the vision of Universitas Sumatera Utara as a world-class university.
This initiative also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), by strengthening higher education governance, enhancing academic leadership, and promoting curriculum development that adapts to scientific and technological advancements. Furthermore, it contributes to SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through the development of graduate competencies and entrepreneurial skills, as well as SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering collaboration among departments, study programs, and various stakeholders to advance high-quality, globally competitive medical education.
