The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU) has once again demonstrated its commitment to producing outstanding, competitive, and high-achieving students through the organization of the Faculty Medical Olympiad (FMO) BEM FK USU 2026. Initiated by the Student Executive Board (BEM) FK USU, the event serves as an internal academic competition as well as the official selection process to determine the faculty's best delegates who will represent FK USU at the 2026 Regional Medical Olympiad (RMO).
The Faculty Medical Olympiad provides a platform for students to strengthen their academic knowledge, clinical skills, and critical thinking in solving a wide range of medical problems. Through this competition, participants are assessed not only on their mastery of medical sciences but also on their analytical abilities, communication skills, and decision-making competencies, all of which are essential qualities for future medical professionals.
The organization of the Faculty Medical Olympiad BEM FK USU 2026 also aligns with the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara's commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education. By promoting academic excellence, clinical competence, critical thinking, and a competitive yet collaborative learning environment, the competition represents a tangible effort to enhance the quality of medical education.
In the 2026 edition, the competition features six medical disciplines: Cardiorespiratory, Digestive, Genitourinary, Infectious Disease, Musculoskeletal, and Neuropsychiatry. Each category is designed to comprehensively assess students' competencies in accordance with advances in medical science and the evolving needs of healthcare services.
In his opening remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Dr. dr. Muara Panusunan Lubis, M.Ked(OG), Sp.OG., Subsp.K.Fm, expressed his appreciation to BEM FK USU for organizing the event, emphasizing its role in fostering student achievement while promoting a competitive and high-quality academic culture.
"The Faculty Medical Olympiad is not merely a competition, but also a learning process that shapes students' character, professionalism, and competitive spirit in the academic field.
