Medan, June 24, 2025 – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) successfully held the 2025 Outstanding Student Selection (PILMAPRES) on June 23–24, 2025, at the USU Central Administration Building and Digital Learning Center Building. The theme of this event was “Impactful Campus: Creating Innovative Solutions for a Sustainable Indonesia.”
In his opening remarks, USU Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., emphasized that PILMAPRES is not merely an academic competition but also a platform for students who have made tangible contributions to society. “Through this event, we aim to foster a community of students who are solution-oriented, practical, and think long-term,” he said.
Meanwhile, Director of the Directorate of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations at USU, Rahma Yurliani, S.Psi., M.Psi., explained that the selection process is conducted in stages, from the program level to the university level. This year, PILMAPRES USU was participated in by 17 students, consisting of 9 participants from the science and technology (saintek) cluster and 8 participants from the social sciences cluster.
“All participants will be evaluated objectively by seven judges from various academic backgrounds. The evaluation is conducted based on official guidelines,” she added.
The highlight of the PILMAPRES 2025 event crowned Enrico Franditho Sihombing (Student ID: 220100117), a student from the Faculty of Medicine, as the Outstanding Undergraduate Student of Universitas Sumatera Utara. He presented a scientific paper titled “Chitosan-Coated PLGA Nanoparticles Encapsulating Quercetin from Red Onion Peel Waste in an Inhalation Formulation for Lung Cancer Therapy.” This achievement further solidifies the reputation of the Faculty of Medicine at USU as one of the leading faculties in producing outstanding students.
The chair of the judging panel, Dr. Rusdi Noor Rosa, S.S., M.Hum., stated that the evaluation process had two main criteria: the student’s outstanding achievements and the scientific ideas presented. “The participants’ ability to present their ideas in English was also crucial in the selection process,” he explained.
The winners of the USU PILMAPRES 2025 will represent USU in the regional-level selection organized by the Higher Education Services Agency (LLDIKTI) Region I.
