The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), welcomed a visit and an institutional meeting from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Negeri Medan (FK UNIMED), as part of efforts to strengthen institutional relations while expanding academic networks and collaboration between higher education institutions. The activity was held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in the Dean’s Meeting Room on the 2nd Floor of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara.
The visit was attended by the Acting Dean of FK UNIMED, dr. Rika Nailuvar Sinaga, M.Biomed., AIFO-K., accompanied by the Acting Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, dr. Miftahul Ihsan, M.Ked(PD), Sp. PD. AIFO-K, and the Acting Vice Dean for General Affairs and Finance, dr. Marshal Risfandi, M.Ked. AIFO-K, Sp.BS, FINSS, FINPS. The FK UNIMED delegation was welcomed by the Dean of FK USU and the FK USU Dean’s Office, accompanied by the Heads of the Undergraduate Program in Medicine and the Professional Program in Medicine.
During the meeting, the two parties exchanged information, experiences, and institutional management practices to support improvements in the quality of education and institutional development. The discussion also provided an opportunity to identify various potential synergies that could be developed to strengthen the academic and institutional capacities of both faculties.
Both parties also explored various opportunities for sustainable collaboration, particularly in education, research, community service, and institutional development. Such collaboration is expected to create opportunities for synergy between FK USU and FK UNIMED in developing academic programs and activities that benefit both the academic community and society. Strengthening networks among higher education institutions is also part of efforts to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through improving educational quality, exchanging knowledge, and developing human resource capacity in the field of medicine.
Beyond education, potential collaboration in research and community service is expected to contribute to improving public health and well-being. This is aligned with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, particularly through the development of knowledge, innovation in healthcare, and community service activities oriented toward addressing various health issues in society.
The synergy established between FK USU and FK UNIMED also reflects the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, which emphasizes the importance of strategic partnerships in supporting the achievement of sustainable development. Through increasingly strong institutional networks, both institutions are expected to develop concrete and sustainable forms of collaboration that generate positive impacts on medical education, research, community service, and health development.
FK USU welcomed the visit and collaborative initiative from FK UNIMED. The meeting is expected to serve as an initial step toward realizing various forms of strategic cooperation that can be developed jointly, while further strengthening the roles of both institutions in advancing medical education and improving public health.
