“The medical world today demands scientific rigor and critical thinking skills, sensitivity to social dynamics and humanitarian values, mastery of continuously evolving medical technology, as well as unwavering moral integrity and professional ethics,” - Prof. Dr. dr. Fidel Garnis Siregar.

The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), held the Handover Ceremony for Successful Applicants of the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS), Master of Clinical Medicine (MKK), and Subspecialty Programs for the February 2026 intake on Monday, January 26, 2026. The event took place in the 4th Floor Seminar Room of the FK USU building and was attended by university leaders, faculty executives, heads of study programs, and participants who had successfully passed the selection process.

Based on the results of a comprehensive and rigorous selection process, a total of 141 new students were officially declared successful and formally handed over to commence their education in their respective study programs within FK USU.

In his welcoming remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe, Sp.S(K), stated that this handover ceremony marks the initial milestone for participants as they enter an advanced stage of education that demands high levels of dedication, commitment, and integrity. The Dean emphasized FK USU’s strong commitment to producing specialists, clinical master graduates, and subspecialists who are not only academically and clinically excellent, but also socially sensitive and firmly uphold professional ethics.

“Through the educational process at FK USU, we hope that participants will develop into competent medical professionals with strong character who are capable of responding to healthcare challenges at both national and global levels,” he stated.

On the same occasion, the Secretary of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG)., Sp.O.G., Subsp.F.E.R, also delivered guidance and motivation to the participants. In his address, he emphasized that becoming a specialist doctor in today’s era is no longer sufficient if based solely on clinical competence.

“The medical world today demands scientific rigor and critical thinking skills, sensitivity to social and humanitarian dynamics, mastery of continuously evolving medical technology, as well as unwavering moral integrity and professional ethics,” he remarked.

Furthermore, Prof. Fidel highlighted that amid various global challenges—ranging from healthcare system transformation and the digitalization of medical services to increasing demands for service quality—doctors are expected not only to serve as healers, but also as leaders, educators, and innovators.

“The education you are undertaking is not merely an academic process, but a process of shaping character, integrity, and humanitarian responsibility,” he added.

This handover ceremony is expected to serve as a strong starting point for new students in pursuing their education optimally, as well as to become part of FK USU’s ongoing efforts to strengthen superior, professional, and globally competitive healthcare human resources.
