Medan, September 3, 2026 – The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), through the Universitas Sumatera Utara Community Service Team, conducted an activity titled “Digitalization of the Tuberculosis (TB) Medication Adherence Information System in Medan.” The activity represents one of FK USU’s contributions to strengthening tuberculosis control through the use of digital health technology.
The Community Service activity was conducted on August 28 and September 3, 2026, involving the FK USU team and TB officers from community health centers (Puskesmas) across Medan.
On September 3, 2026, the activity was held in the Meeting Room on the First Floor of FK USU. The meeting was part of a series of Community Service activities specifically aimed at introducing the TB Medication Adherence application in Medan to TB officers at community health centers.
During the activity, the FK USU Community Service Team introduced the use of an application developed to support the monitoring of TB patients’ adherence to taking their medication regularly. The socialization was conducted to improve TB officers’ understanding of the use of digital systems to support the monitoring of patients’ treatment in their respective community health center service areas.
This initiative is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, which emphasizes ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all. Through the digitalization of medication adherence monitoring, FK USU seeks to support the strengthening of healthcare services and the control of communicable diseases, including tuberculosis, in Medan.
The activity was led by Dr. dr. Sake Juli Martina, Sp.E.K., M.H.Kes., FISQua, who oversaw the implementation of the Community Service activity and coordinated the development and dissemination of the digitalized TB medication adherence information system. The Community Service Team also included Dr. rer. medic. dr. M. Ichwan, MSc, Sp.KKLP, Subsp.FOMC, and Dr. dr. Isti Ilmiati Faujati, MSc, Sp.KKLP, Subsp.OOPC, as team members. Together, they contributed to various stages of the activity, from program development and presentation of materials to application socialization and discussions with TB officers from community health centers.
Through this activity, FK USU hopes that the TB Medication Adherence application will help healthcare workers monitor treatment more effectively and in an integrated manner. The digitalization initiative is also expected to support improvements in service quality and strengthen TB control efforts in Medan.
The collaboration between FK USU and TB officers at community health centers across Medan also reflects the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Synergy between higher education institutions and healthcare facilities is an important component in building sustainable partnerships to develop solutions that address community needs and strengthen tuberculosis control efforts at the local level.
