The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), successfully conducted the election for the Interim Replacement (PAW) Member of the Academic Senate representing Non-Professor Faculty Members for the 2024–2029 term on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, at the First Floor Meeting Room of the Faculty of Medicine. The election formed part of the faculty's commitment to upholding democratic, transparent, and accountable academic governance.

The election process proceeded smoothly and orderly, with 173 faculty members exercising their voting rights. All stages of the election, from voting to vote counting, were conducted in accordance with the established procedures, reflecting the principles of democracy and professionalism in the faculty's academic governance.
Based on the final vote count, Dr. dr. Gema Nazri Yanni, M.Ked(Ped), Sp.A(K), received 123 votes, while dr. Zulham, M.Biomed., Ph.D., received 50 votes. With this result, Dr. dr. Gema Nazri Yanni, M.Ked(Ped), Sp.A(K), was officially elected as the Interim Replacement Member of the Academic Senate representing Non-Professor Faculty Members for the 2024–2029 term at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara.

The Academic Senate is a key governing body in higher education, playing a strategic role in providing recommendations, oversight, and input on academic policies. The appointment of senate members through a democratic process is expected to strengthen the implementation of the university's Tri Dharma—education, research, and community service—while supporting continuous improvements in academic quality at the Faculty of Medicine USU.
The successful implementation of the election also reflects the high level of participation among the academic community in fostering good university governance. The enthusiasm demonstrated by the voters highlights a collective commitment to maintaining a professional, ethical, and forward-looking academic system that supports institutional advancement.
