Enrico Franditho Sihombing, an active Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara student, successfully won First Place in the Undergraduate Program category. This achievement allows him to represent North Sumatra Region I in the National Preliminary Selection along with other regional winners of Pilmapres 2025. The Final National Selection will be held at Universitas Diponegoro, Semarang, in October 2025, with participants from various regions across Indonesia.

The 2025 Selection of Outstanding Students (Pilmapres) for North Sumatra Region I was successfully held at STIKes Mitra Husada Medan on July 9–10, 2025. This annual event, organized by the Higher Education Service Institution (LLDikti) Region I, served as a platform for 54 top students from public and private universities across North Sumatra to showcase their academic and non-academic achievements.

34 undergraduate and 20 diploma students who had passed the administrative selection stage participated in the competition. All participants performed their best in presenting their Outstanding Achievements, Creative Ideas or Innovative Products, and English communication skills before the panel of judges.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Siti Nurmawan Sinaga, M.Kes., the Head of STIKes Mitra Husada Medan, expressed her gratitude and appreciation for LLDikti Region I's trust in selecting their campus as the host of this year's Pilmapres. She emphasized that this event plays a vital role in driving students' competitiveness at the international level.

During the opening ceremony, Prof. Saiful Anwar Matondang, Ph.D., Head of LLDikti Region I, explained that the main difference between undergraduate and diploma programs lies in the proportion of academic activities. The undergraduate students focus more on theory and concepts, while diploma students emphasize practical applications. A former national runner-up of the Outstanding Student Selection himself, he highlighted the importance of student engagement beyond academics.

He reminded the audience that the competition results are not the final goal but the beginning of continuous innovation. He also emphasized the importance of originality and natural, communicative delivery.

The 2025 Pilmapres is expected to motivate students to continue developing their potential in academics, innovation, and making positive contributions to society and the country.
