Sri Lanka – The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), participated in the Health and Sports Science Programme organized by the Department of Education, Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, on 20 July 2026.

Prof. Dina delivered a lecture on the role of nutrition in supporting growth, development, and overall health. Meanwhile, Dr. Yetty presented on the importance of physical activity in promoting students' health and well-being through a session titled "Physical Activity and Nutrition to Optimize Growth and Development."

The programme was attended by undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya. The event was facilitated and supported by Prof. K.S.H.M.V.W. Walter Senevirathne and the Department of Education, Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya.

Representing FK USU as guest lecturers were Prof. Dr. dr. Dina Keumala Sari, M.Gizi, Sp.GK, Subsp.PK, Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Collaboration, and Internationalization as well as a faculty member of the Clinical Nutrition Study Program, and Dr. dr. Yetty Machrina, M.Kes, AIFO-K, Sp.KKLP, Subsp.FOMC from the Department of Physiology.

Through this programme, participants gained a deeper understanding of the relationship between balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and healthy lifestyles in supporting growth, development, and overall quality of life. The programme also served as a platform for academic knowledge exchange between FK USU and the University of Peradeniya in the fields of health and education.

In addition to the academic sessions, FK USU held a meeting with the leadership of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, to discuss opportunities for future institutional collaboration. The discussion explored potential partnerships in education, research, academic exchange, and community engagement initiatives that would benefit both institutions.

This programme aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being through enhanced understanding of nutrition, physical activity, and healthy living. It also supports SDG 4: Quality Education by fostering academic knowledge exchange and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaborative engagement between FK USU and the University of Peradeniya.
