Medan, August 21, 2026 – The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), held the Doctor’s Oath-Taking Ceremony for the Fourth Period of the 2025/2026 Academic Year. The ceremony marked an important milestone for graduates of the Medical Professional Study Program as they began their journey of service as professional medical practitioners. A total of 42 new doctors were inducted, comprising 13 men and 29 women, including 41 Indonesian citizens and one foreign national.

In his remarks, Dean of FK USU, Dr. dr. Muara Panusunan Lubis, M.Ked(OG), Sp.O.G, Subsp.K.Fm, stated that taking the Doctor’s Oath represents the new doctors’ commitment and readiness to serve the community. The oath is not merely a statement to be recited, but a principle that must be remembered and upheld throughout their professional careers.

“New doctors are expected to consistently uphold the Doctor’s Oath and the Medical Code of Ethics, comply with the law, and maintain professional conduct. Doctors must also be committed to continuously expanding their knowledge throughout their professional careers,” said the Dean of FK USU.

The Dean emphasized that a doctor’s professional journey requires continuous competency development. The dynamic advancement of medical science, medical technology, and information technology requires doctors to continue learning and keeping up with the latest developments.

This commitment to lifelong learning is in line with SDG 4: Quality Education, particularly in supporting competency development and continuous learning. Meanwhile, the readiness of doctors to provide optimal healthcare services also supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, through the contribution of medical professionals to improving the quality of healthcare services and public health.

In this period, the graduates achieved an average GPA of 3.69, with an average study duration of 2 years and 4 months. Of the 42 graduates, 12 received the “Cum Laude (With Honors)” distinction, representing a commendable academic achievement.

Meanwhile, the Chair of the FK USU Alumni Association encouraged the new doctors to uphold the reputation of their alma mater, maintain the honor of the medical profession, and continue fostering connections with the wider FK USU alumni community. The graduates are expected to apply the values gained throughout their education to make meaningful contributions to society.
