Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Management & Science University (MSU) on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Rector’s Meeting Room on the third floor of the USU Rectorate Building. On the same occasion, the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU) further strengthened its international academic network through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between FK USU and the International Medical School, MSU.

The Management & Science University delegation consisted of Prof. Dr. Indang Ariati Ariffin, Vice President of International Affairs; Prof. Dr. Mohamad Khairuddin Abdul Wahab, Dean of the International Medical School; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hamidah Abd Wahab, Deputy Dean of Academic Affairs, International Medical School.

The MSU delegation was welcomed by USU’s leadership, including Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara; Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., Vice Rector III for Research, Innovation, and Cooperation; Prof. Dr. dr. Dewi Masyithah Darlan, DAP & E., MPH., Sp.Park., Director of the Directorate of Cooperation and Internationalization; and Amalia Meutia, M.Psi., Psychologist, Manager of Cooperation at USU. Representing the Faculty of Medicine, the event was attended by the Dean of FK USU, Dr. dr. Muara Panusunan Lubis, M.Ked(OG), Sp.O.G., Subsp.K.Fm., accompanied by the Vice Deans of FK USU.

The signing of the cooperation agreement marks a strategic step for USU and MSU in expanding institutional collaboration and creating opportunities to develop various academic programs at the international level. Meanwhile, the partnership between FK USU and the International Medical School, MSU, is specifically directed toward strengthening collaboration in medical education, research, capacity building, and the exchange of academic knowledge and experience.

Through collaboration in education and capacity development, the two institutions are expected to provide more opportunities for students and lecturers to gain academic experience, broaden their perspectives, and develop competencies in an international educational environment. This initiative aligns with SDG 4: Quality Education, which emphasizes improving the quality of education and developing relevant competencies to support lifelong learning.

The partnership also opens opportunities for joint research, scientific publications, knowledge exchange, and other academic activities. Such collaboration is expected to encourage innovation and expand the institutions’ contributions to the advancement of medical science. Capacity building through joint academic and research activities is part of FK USU’s efforts to develop competent human resources who are adaptive to developments in science and technology.

The Dean of FK USU, Dr. dr. Muara Panusunan Lubis, M.Ked(OG), Sp.O.G., Subsp.K.Fm., stated that strengthening international networks is an important part of FK USU’s efforts to improve the quality and competitiveness of medical education.

“We hope that this collaboration will not stop at the signing of the agreement, but will be translated into concrete and sustainable programs that provide benefits for students, lecturers, researchers, and both institutions,” he said.

The partnership between FK USU and the International Medical School, MSU, also reflects the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through the development of strategic partnerships across institutions and countries. The collaboration is expected to serve as a platform for sharing knowledge, experience, resources, and best practices in medical education and research.

For FK USU, the partnership with MSU represents an ongoing effort to expand international exposure and create more opportunities for collaboration among its academic community. Cross-border academic interaction is expected to enrich perspectives, strengthen competencies, and encourage innovation in medical education and research.
