Medan, August 2026 — The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), held a welcoming and handover ceremony for new students enrolled in the Specialist Medical Education Program (PPDS), Clinical Medical Master’s Program, and Subspecialty Program for the August 2026 intake. The event marked the beginning of a new academic journey for students pursuing advanced medical education at FK USU.

The ceremony was opened by USU Vice Rector I for Academic, Student Affairs, and Alumni, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., who emphasized the importance of students being prepared to undertake their education with responsibility, integrity, and a strong commitment to advancing their knowledge and expertise. The presence of new students from various medical disciplines is expected to further strengthen USU’s ecosystem of excellence in health education.

In his welcoming remarks, Dean of FK USU, Dr. dr. Muara Panusunan Lubis, M.Ked(OG), Sp.OG, Subsp.K.Fm., welcomed all new students to the faculty.

“Welcome and congratulations on becoming part of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara family. Specialist, subspecialty, and Clinical Medical Master’s education are demanding and lengthy processes that require dedication, discipline, integrity, and a commitment to continuous learning. We hope our students will approach every stage of their education with dedication and ultimately make their best contributions to society,” he said.

The development of specialist, subspecialty, and clinical medical education plays a strategic role in strengthening the quality of healthcare professionals. The competencies gained throughout these programs are expected to be applied in delivering increasingly high-quality, safe, and patient-centered healthcare services. This effort supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, particularly through strengthening the capacity of healthcare professionals and improving the quality of healthcare services.

The welcoming ceremony also reflects FK USU’s commitment to fostering an academic environment that promotes scientific development, research, professionalism, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The event concluded with the signing of the new student handover documents and a group photo, symbolizing the beginning of the students’ academic journey at FK USU.
