The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU) welcomed Pohuwato Vice Regent Iwan Sarifudin Adam, S.H., on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, in the Dean's Meeting Room on the second floor of FK USU. Accompanying the Vice Regent were Dr. Dian Ikagustina Tambunan, Sp.A., Director of RSUD Bumi Panua Pohuwato, and Roys Gunibala, S.Si., Head of the Nursing Division. The visit formed part of a joint effort to strengthen collaboration between the Pohuwato Regency Government, RSUD Bumi Panua Pohuwato, and the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, focusing on strategies to address the shortage of specialist healthcare professionals in Pohuwato Regency.
The meeting was conducted in a constructive atmosphere, with discussions centered on potential areas of collaboration, particularly initiatives to support the provision of specialist physicians capable of meeting the healthcare needs of local communities. The visit also served as an opportunity to coordinate and explore partnerships in the development of healthcare human resources, with a particular emphasis on increasing the availability of specialist doctors in Pohuwato Regency.
These efforts are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by improving public access to quality healthcare services; SDG 4: Quality Education, through strengthening medical education and the development of competent specialist healthcare professionals; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by fostering collaboration among local government, healthcare institutions, and higher education institutions to build a stronger and more equitable healthcare system.
FK USU warmly welcomed the visit as a reflection of a shared commitment to establishing partnerships that contribute to improving the quality of healthcare services in Indonesia. Through sustained collaboration, the parties hope to develop initiatives that will support a more equitable distribution of specialist healthcare professionals, particularly in Pohuwato Regency, enabling communities to gain better access to quality healthcare services. The meeting is also expected to serve as the foundation for long-term cooperation in advancing healthcare development, especially in regions where specialist medical services remain limited.
