“The specialists inaugurated today are clear evidence of USU’s commitment to producing outstanding and high-integrity medical professionals. We hope our alumni will continue to apply their knowledge with full dedication, uphold professional ethics, and provide the best possible services to the community, especially in maternal and child healthcare,” said Prof. Fidel.

Medan, Saturday (1 November 2025) — The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU) once again produced high-quality medical specialists through the inauguration of 19 Obstetrics and Gynecology (ObGyn) Specialists and the welcoming of 22 new participants of the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS), held at Hotel Adimulia, Medan.

 

The ceremony was conducted in a solemn and meaningful atmosphere, attended by the Secretary of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG), Sp.O.G, Subsp.F.E.R.; Vice Dean II of FK USU, Dr. dr. Muara Lubis, M.Ked(OG)., Sp.OG(K).; Chairman of the Indonesian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (POGI) North Sumatra, Dr. dr. Johny Marpaung, M.Ked(OG)., Sp.OG(K)., Subsp.K.Fm.; as well as the Chair, Secretary of the Study Program, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology FK USU, supervising lecturers, academic staff, and the families of the newly inaugurated specialists.

In his remarks, Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG), Sp.O.G, Subsp.F.E.R. expressed his appreciation and pride in the achievements of the doctors who successfully completed their specialist training at FK USU. He emphasized that their graduation is expected to strengthen contributions to maternal and child healthcare services throughout Indonesia.

 

“The specialists inaugurated today are tangible proof of USU’s commitment to producing excellent and ethical medical professionals. We hope our alumni will continue to practice their knowledge with dedication, uphold professional ethics, and provide the best services to society, particularly in caring for the health of pregnant women and children,” Prof. Fidel stated.

 

Meanwhile, Dr. dr. Muara Lubis, Vice Dean II of FK USU, highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong spirit of learning and professionalism, both for the newly inaugurated specialists and the incoming PPDS participants.

 

“The educational process at FK USU is not only about clinical competence, but also about character building, ethics, and empathy toward patients. For our new PPDS residents, make this opportunity the first step toward achieving excellence and contributing meaningful benefits to the nation,” he conveyed.

 

The Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Program, Dr. dr. Edy Ardiansyah, M.Ked(OG)., Sp.OG., Subsp.Urogi RE., explained that as part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, members of the academic community are encouraged to dedicate their knowledge and skills through healthcare services in affiliated hospitals and clinics, as a tangible form of community contribution.

 

“Becoming a medical specialist is a long journey filled with challenges. We hope our graduates remain humble, continue to learn, and uphold the good name of their alma mater. To our new PPDS residents, we warmly welcome you to join us in continuing the tradition of excellence in obstetrics and gynecology,” he concluded.
