The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), again held an Inauguration and Oath-taking Ceremony for Doctors on Tuesday (03/12/2024). The Inauguration and Doctors' Oath were held at the 3rd Floor Hall Building of FK USU. A total of 19 people (10 men and 9 women) comprised 15 Indonesian citizens and 4 foreigners.
The appointment was led by the Vice Dean II of FK USU, Dr. Muara Panusunan Lubis M.Ked (OG), Sp.OG (K). Dr. Fawaz Rizaki Tarigan read the text of the doctor's oath, which was followed by all doctors to be inaugurated.
In his remarks, the Dean of the USU Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe, Sp.S (K), said that the tradition of taking the Doctor's Oath, which had been witnessed together earlier, was a statement of readiness for new doctors to devote themselves to society. The statement should be recited and remembered because the spiritual oath statement deeply impacts each alumni from now until the end of life.
“As an alumnus of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, you must always work to the best of your abilities. Work professionally according to your competence by always upholding ethics and complying with all applicable regulations. Be agents of change in your respective environments. Keep the good name of the alma mater. Make the USU Faculty of Medicine proud in the community, “continued Prof. Aldy.
Then continued with remarks by representing the Chairperson of the USU FK Alumni Association (IKA), dr. Rointan Simanungkalit, Sp.KK (K). “We congratulate our children because this is one of the very special things in your life. Why should a doctor take an oath when being inaugurated? Because a doctor must deal with humans and in the oath it is stated that we as doctors must prioritize patient safety “.
“I hope that the doctor's oath is not only to be recited but also to be internalized. From the time the fetus is unborn until the patient dies, everything is our responsibility,” said Dr. Rointan.
“I represent the parents of the doctors who were inaugurated today to say millions of thanks, especially to the educators who have sincerely taught these young doctors. I also express my gratitude to God Almighty because, thanks to His Grace, we have the opportunity to gather here, “said Dr. Azril Haris, representing the parents of the doctors.
“The inauguration of this doctor's oath reminds me of 30 years ago, when I was also appointed as a young doctor on the island of Pinang,” he continued.
