SUTC is the first comprehensive TB management training event in North Sumatra held on January 7-8, 2023 at Raz Plaza hotel, Medan. During these two days, participants will receive comprehensive training on TB, ranging from the challenges of diagnosis enforcement to various models of TB management with different clinical conditions. This event is a collaboration of the Pulmonology Allergy Immunology Division of the Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) with the Association of Internal Medicine Experts SUMUT Branch (PAPDI SUMUT) and the Association of Respirology and Critical Illness (PERPARI) SUMUT Branch. This event was initiated by Dr. Ananda Wibawanta Ginting, M.Ked(PD), Sp.PD,K-PMK, and the chief executive of this SUTC activity.

 

 

TB is one of the top 10 causes of death in the world, and Indonesia has one of the highest TB incidence rates. Indonesia is committed to eliminating TB by 2030, with a target incidence of 65/100,000 and a mortality rate of 6/100,000. To support TB elimination, it is necessary to improve and update TB program management for all health workers in Indonesia.

 

The SUTC event was attended by invited guests of policy makers, including the Head of the North Sumatra Health Office, dr. H. Alwi Mujahit Hasibuan M.Kes, Head of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) of North Sumatra Health Office, dr. Syarifah Zakia, M.Kes, Deputy BPJS North Sumatra dr. Asnila Dewi Harahap MKM and the Dean of the Universitas Sumatera Utara, in this case, represented by Vice Dean III of Faculty of Medicine USU, dr. Inke Nadia Diniyanti Lubis, Sp.A (K), Ph.D, Chairman of the SUMUT Branch of PAPDI, dr. Ariantho Sidasuha Purba, M.Kes Sp.PD, K-Ger, and Head of Internal Medicine Department, dr. Dina Aprillia Ariestine, M.Ked (PD), Sp.PD K-Ger. Each of them gave a speech and really appreciated the implementation of this SUTC event.

 

 

The number of training participants reached 51 people with the majority of internal medicine specialists (Sp.PD) in North Sumatra and frontline general practitioners in the treatment and care of TB patients. At this event, not only discussed TB disease, but also explained and reminded fellow internal medicine specialists about the competence of internal medicine specialists for TB management, ranging from uncomplicated pulmonary TB to complications, TB with comorbidities (HIV, DM, Kidney Disease, Liver Disease, Geriatrics, Depression, etc.), extrapulmonary TB, and MDR TB. Participants were also reminded of the importance of reporting TB cases through the TB Information System (SITB) so that all TB patients are properly notified and reported, and the importance of paying attention to catastrophic costs for TB patients. With this training, it is hoped that all internal medicine specialists and general practitioners can continue to maintain and improve their knowledge of diagnosis and management of TB from various aspects.

 

 

With the implementation of this event, it is expected to increase the competence of internists (Internal Medicine Specialists) and general practitioners, so as to assist the government in the TB eradication program in 2030.
