Medan, August 12, 2026 – A total of 8,360 new students of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) officially began the 2026 Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) at the USU Kembar Stadium on Wednesday (August 12, 2026). The university-level opening served as an important starting point for new students to become familiar with the academic environment, culture, and student life at USU before continuing the orientation activities at their respective faculties.

In her activity report, USU Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Alumni, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., explained that new students would participate in a series of activities conducted progressively, from the university level to the faculty level. She also encouraged students to build harmonious relationships with fellow students and lecturers while embracing a positive and enjoyable academic experience at USU.

The Faculty of Medicine (FK) USU also participated in PKKMB USU 2026, involving 261 new students. For the new FK USU students, the activity marked their first opportunity to become more familiar with the medical education environment, academic values, student life, as well as various facilities and activities supporting their learning throughout their studies at FK USU.

As early as 5:00 a.m. WIB, the USU Kembar Stadium was already filled with new students preparing to participate in the activities. Rainfall at the venue since early morning became part of the first day of PKKMB USU 2026. Nevertheless, the new students remained at the venue and followed the committee’s instructions in an orderly manner. The situation also provided an early experience in developing discipline, resilience, and adaptability in facing different circumstances.

The implementation of PKKMB also contributes to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, particularly through efforts to create an inclusive, high-quality educational environment that supports students’ potential development. Through a structured introduction to campus life, new students are expected to develop the academic and social readiness needed to participate in the educational process and continuously develop their competencies.

With the spirit of “Embracing an Incredible Brighter Future,” the 261 new FK USU students are expected to begin their educational journey with optimism, build positive networks, and grow into competent, ethical, adaptable, and community-oriented future physicians.
