Medan – The Indonesian Society of Respirology (PDPI) North Sumatra Branch once again organized the 6th Respirology Scientific Meeting (PIR VI) in 2026, which took place from 19–21 June 2026 at Adi Mulia Hotel Medan. This scientific event served as a strategic forum for physicians, academics, researchers, students, and healthcare professionals to update their knowledge and share experiences regarding the latest developments in the field of respirology.

Carrying the spirit of “Pursuit of Healthy Lung Happiness,” PIR VI featured a series of activities including clinical skills workshops, scientific symposiums, and a scientific poster presentation competition showcasing various research findings and innovations in pulmonary and respiratory health. The event was attended by speakers and participants from various healthcare and educational institutions across Indonesia. Through the workshop sessions, participants had the opportunity to enhance their practical competencies in the management of pulmonary diseases and respiratory disorders. Meanwhile, the symposiums presented in-depth discussions on developments in science, technology, and current challenges in respiratory healthcare services.

In her remarks, the Vice Dean for Education, Student Affairs, and Alumni Relations of the Faculty of Medicine USU, Prof. dr. Ayodhia Pitaloka Pasaribu, M.Ked(Ped), Sp.A(K), Ph.D(CTM), representing the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine USU, expressed her appreciation for the organization of the 6th Respirology Scientific Meeting (PIR VI) of the PDPI North Sumatra Branch. According to her, the theme “Pursuit of Healthy Lung Happiness” serves as a reminder of the importance of respiratory health as a key foundation for society’s quality of life. Participants are expected to update their knowledge, exchange clinical experiences, and improve their competencies in pulmonology and respiratory medicine.
“The theme Pursuit of Healthy Lung Happiness reminds us that lung health is a crucial foundation for the quality of life of society. Through this workshop and symposium, I hope participants can update their knowledge, strengthen collaboration, and implement the skills they acquire to improve the quality of pulmonary healthcare services in Indonesia,” said Prof. dr. Ayodhia.

Prof. Ayodhia also emphasized that scientific activities such as PIR VI play a strategic role in strengthening collaboration among academics, clinicians, and healthcare practitioners. She expressed hope that the knowledge and skills gained during the event could be implemented in daily healthcare services, thereby improving the quality of pulmonary healthcare for the community. In addition, the event is expected to further strengthen professional networks and encourage the emergence of innovations in the field of respiratory health in Indonesia.
The organization of PIR VI aims to enhance the capacity and competencies of healthcare professionals in the field of respirology, strengthen cross-institutional collaboration, and promote a culture of research and scientific publication. The scientific poster competition also provided a platform for young researchers and students to present their work and receive feedback from experts.
Through this event, it is hoped that stronger synergy will be established between academia and healthcare services in addressing various pulmonary and respiratory health challenges, while also supporting the improvement of evidence-based healthcare services for the realization of a healthier society.
