Medan, June 3, 2026 – The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), welcomed a delegation from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKKI), Universitas Jambi, for the signing of a Cooperation Agreement aimed at strengthening the commitment of both institutions to improving the quality of medical education in Indonesia. The event was held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in the Dean’s Meeting Room on the second floor of the Faculty of Medicine, USU.
The collaboration focuses on developing and mentoring the Specialist Medical Education Program (PPDS)-1 in Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universitas Jambi. Through this partnership, the Faculty of Medicine, USU, will provide academic guidance and institutional capacity-building support to facilitate the establishment and implementation of a high-quality specialist education program in accordance with national medical education standards.
The cooperation agreement was signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, USU, Dr. dr. Muara Panusunan Lubis, M.Ked(OG), Sp.OG, Subsp.K.Fm, and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universitas Jambi, Dr. dr. Humaryanto, Sp.OT, M.Kes.
In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, USU stated that this collaboration reflects the responsibility of established medical education institutions with experience and resources in specialist medical training to support the development of other institutions across Indonesia.
"The Faculty of Medicine, USU warmly welcomes this collaboration as a tangible contribution to promoting equitable quality in specialist medical education throughout Indonesia. We hope that through this mentoring program, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universitas Jambi will be increasingly prepared to implement the Specialist Medical Education Program in Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine," said Dr. Muara.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universitas Jambi expressed appreciation for the support and trust extended by the Faculty of Medicine, USU in assisting the development of specialist medical education programs at Universitas Jambi.
"This collaboration represents a strategic step for us in preparing the implementation of the Specialist Medical Education Program in Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine. We highly appreciate the willingness of the Faculty of Medicine, USU to share its experience, expertise, and best practices that have been successfully implemented over the years. We hope this partnership will strengthen the quality of education, research, and healthcare services at both institutions," he stated.
In addition to strengthening institutional relations, the cooperation agreement is expected to create broader opportunities for collaboration in education, research, and community service. Through this synergy, both institutions are committed to producing competent healthcare professionals and contributing to the improvement of healthcare services, particularly in the fields of pulmonology and respiratory medicine.
Through the signing of this agreement, the Faculty of Medicine, USU and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universitas Jambi aim to jointly support the sustainable development of specialist medical education while strengthening the role of higher education institutions in addressing Indonesia’s need for specialist healthcare professionals.
