Medan, September 7, 2026 – The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), held the International USU SPIRIT Summer Course 2026 Opening Ceremony and Guest Lectures on Monday, September 7, 2026. The activity took place in the 4th Floor Hall of FK USU and marked the opening of a series of international academic activities featuring speakers from various international backgrounds.
The activity began with a Welcoming Speech delivered by the Chief of USU SPIRIT Summer Course 2026, Prof. Dr. dr. Dina Keumala Sari, M.Gizi, Sp.GK, Subsp.PK. In her remarks, she expressed appreciation for the organization of the activity and expressed hope that USU SPIRIT Summer Course 2026 would serve as a platform for participants to broaden their academic perspectives, exchange knowledge, and build networks and collaborations with academics from various countries.
The event continued with remarks by the Dean of FK USU, Dr. dr. Muara Pannusunan Lubis, M.Ked(OG), Sp.O.G, Subsp.K.Fm. In his remarks, the Dean expressed support for the implementation of international programs as part of FK USU’s efforts to strengthen the quality of education, expand global networks, and increase the exposure of the academic community to developments in science and medical practice at the international level.
The next session featured Guest Lectures delivered by international speakers from Spain, Romania, Chile, Costa Rica, Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia, and Indonesia, among others. The session provided participants with an opportunity to gain new perspectives and knowledge through academic presentations and the exchange of ideas in an international learning environment.
As a form of appreciation for the contributions of the international speakers to the International USU SPIRIT Summer Course 2026, the activity continued with the presentation of ulos as souvenirs to the speakers. The presentation of these souvenirs served as a symbol of appreciation while strengthening academic relations and international cooperation between FK USU and the participating partners and academics.
The implementation of the International USU SPIRIT Summer Course 2026 is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through strengthening access to quality learning, knowledge exchange, and academic capacity development. The activity also supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening international academic networks and collaborations that contribute to the sustainable development of education and health.
