PKM is implemented by the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemdikbudristek). PKM generally aims to prepare future-oriented student resources forged with the transformation of higher education so that they become superior, competitive, adaptive, flexible, productive graduates.
In 2023, 42,368 proposals were submitted and only 5,102 proposals received funding. Which 2 of them were PKM KC teams from FK USU, one team raised the title 50 bp DNA Marker with PCR-based 50-1000 bp DNA fragments sourced from Human DNA. The team is chaired by Putri Chalya Firjatu and consists of Muhammad Ilmam Bariqi, Bayu Harly Putra, Nurhazlin and expert staff of Vice Dean I dr. Zulham M.Biomed, Ph.D., as a companion. This activity will provide a functional product output in the form of a 50 bp DNA Marker. Indonesia does not yet have a DNA Marker that is produced independently. This activity is expected to produce the first DNA marker made in Indonesia, shorten the delivery time, and make the price more economical. In addition, there are also social media outputs such as Instagram which contains educational content and updates on the development of activities with the username @dnamarker.id.
