Another notable achievement was recorded by graduates of the Surgery Residency Program (PPDS) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) at the National Examination of the Indonesian College of Surgeons Region 1. In the examination, two graduates of the USU Surgery Residency Program were recognized as top graduates, demonstrating notable academic achievement and competency.

dr. Muhammad Abror Affan, M.Ked(Surg), Sp.B-E.T., achieved First Best Graduate, while dr. Melissa Sarasvaty Eunike, M.Ked(Surg), Sp.B-E.T. achieved Second Best Graduate. These achievements are a form of appreciation for the dedication, perseverance, and commitment demonstrated throughout their specialist medical education in the field of Surgery.
These achievements not only reflect individual accomplishments but also form part of the contribution of specialist medical education to preparing healthcare professionals with competencies and expertise that meet the needs of healthcare services. Surgeons with strong competencies play an important role in providing safe, high-quality, and professional healthcare services to the community. This is in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being, which emphasizes the importance of improving public health and well-being, including through strengthening the quality and capacity of healthcare professionals.
On the other hand, specialist medical education is an important part of developing human resources in the health sector. Continuous education provides students with opportunities to deepen their knowledge, improve clinical skills, and develop professional competencies in accordance with established standards. These efforts support SDG 4: Quality Education, particularly in promoting quality education and the development of relevant competencies for students.

The achievements of the two graduates of the USU Surgery Residency Program at the National Examination of the Indonesian College of Surgeons Region 1 are expected to motivate other PPDS students to continue improving their competencies and achievements throughout their education. This accomplishment also forms part of the commitment of the Faculty of Medicine USU to supporting the development of specialist medical education and producing competent and professional graduates who can contribute to the advancement of healthcare services in Indonesia.
