Medan, June 2, 2026 – The Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the advancement of medical education in Indonesia through the signing of a Cooperation Agreement with the Faculty of Medicine of Imelda University Medan (FK UIM).

The agreement forms part of FK USU’s ongoing efforts to assist the development of FK UIM as one of the relatively new medical education institutions in North Sumatra. The collaboration focuses on a mentorship and institutional support program in the implementation of medical education, covering academic governance, curriculum development, and the fulfillment of various operational standards required to ensure educational quality.

Through this partnership, FK USU plays a key role in providing academic guidance and consultation to ensure that the curriculum, learning system, supporting resources, and operational standards adopted by FK UIM meet academic and operational feasibility requirements in accordance with prevailing regulations.

The partnership between the two institutions is not new. This collaborative relationship has been in place for three years and has demonstrated positive progress. During this period, the Faculty of Medicine of Imelda University Medan has successfully admitted three cohorts of new students as part of its institutional development process and the continuous implementation of its medical education program.

The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Sumatera Utara stated that this collaboration reflects FK USU’s tangible contribution to enhancing the quality of medical education in Indonesia, particularly in North Sumatra. As a medical education institution with extensive experience in producing highly qualified healthcare professionals, FK USU is committed to sharing its knowledge, experience, and best practices with partner institutions.

In addition to strengthening academic governance, the partnership is expected to create broader opportunities for collaboration in education, research, community service, and the development of healthcare human resources. The synergy established between the two faculties is anticipated to foster a more robust, high-quality, and competitive medical education ecosystem.

Through the signing of this cooperation agreement, FK USU and FK UIM reaffirm their shared commitment to building a productive and sustainable partnership that benefits both institutions. It is hoped that the collaboration will continue to grow and contribute positively to the education of competent and professional physicians who are well prepared to address future healthcare challenges.
