The Dean of the USU Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe, Sp.S(K), stated that this international collaboration is a strategic step to enhance research capacity, advance medical science, and strengthen FK USU’s contribution to Indonesia’s healthcare system. The research involves FK USU, which has actively contributed to education, research, and the practice of family medicine in primary healthcare.
The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), continues to strengthen its international academic network through a research collaboration with McMaster University, Canada, focusing on the development of family medicine and primary healthcare research. This collaboration reflects USU’s commitment to enhancing global relevance and delivering impactful innovation in line with its vision, “Era of Ultimate Excellence.”
The Dean of FK USU, Prof. Dr. dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe, Sp.S(K), emphasized that this international partnership represents a strategic effort to improve research capacity, advance medical knowledge, and reinforce FK USU’s contribution to strengthening Indonesia’s healthcare system.
This research initiative involves FK USU, which has long played an active role in advancing education, research, and the practice of family medicine within primary healthcare services.
The research focuses on early detection and management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in primary healthcare settings. This approach is expected to generate evidence-based recommendations for screening, prevention, and management strategies that align with the needs of Indonesia’s healthcare system.
As part of this collaboration, Dr. dr. Isti Ilmiati Fujiati, MSc.CM-FM, M.Pd.Ked., Sp.KKLP, Subsp.COPC, a lecturer in the Primary Care Family Medicine Study Program under the Department of Community Medicine at FK USU, is involved as a co-investigator in the international research team developing innovative models to strengthen primary healthcare services.
Through this collaboration, FK USU further solidifies its role as a center for the development of family medicine and primary healthcare in Indonesia. This initiative is also expected to expand USU’s academic contribution to global health research and support efforts to improve the quality of public healthcare services.
