A total of 355 residents took part in the free health services provided, which included medical examinations and treatment, distribution of medicines, ready-to-eat food packages, Basic Life Support (BLS) services, and psychosocial consultations. These services were intended to support the recovery of physical health as well as provide mental health support for the community in the post-disaster period.
On Sunday, 21 December 2025, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) once again continued its Emergency Disaster Response Community Service activities in Medan Marelan District, Medan City. This activity was a continuation of the series of post-disaster recovery efforts carried out the previous day, as part of USU’s commitment to consistently accompany and support affected communities.
The activity was centered at Jl. Andansari Pasar VI, Medan Marelan District, and was implemented through collaboration between the USU Peduli Task Force, the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), and Artha Graha Peduli. Through this collaboration, the team provided integrated health services to flood-affected communities in coordination with Puskesmas Terjun.
A total of 355 residents participated in the free health services provided, including medical examinations and treatment, distribution of medicines, ready-to-eat food packages, Basic Life Support (BLS) services, and psychosocial consultations. These services were aimed at supporting physical health recovery while also providing mental health support for the community in the post-disaster phase.
The activity took place with high enthusiasm from the community. Residents made use of the health services in an orderly manner and with a sense of hope, while medical teams and volunteers worked professionally and humanely to serve every community need. USU’s presence in the community not only provided direct health benefits but also created a sense of security and care during the post-disaster recovery period.
This activity reaffirmed Universitas Sumatera Utara’s commitment as a higher education institution that actively plays a role in community service, particularly in emergency disaster situations. Through a cross-sector collaborative approach, USU seeks to strengthen community resilience and support sustainable recovery, both physically and psychosocially.
In his statement, the Head of Medan Marelan District expressed appreciation for the support and attention provided by USU to the local community.
“We would like to express our gratitude for the presence and concern shown by the Emergency Disaster Response Community Service Team of Universitas Sumatera Utara. The assistance and health services provided have been very helpful for our residents affected by the floods and have given encouragement for the community to rise and recover,” said the Head of Medan Marelan District.
