Nadhifa Putri Nisrina expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the PKKMB. "I am proud to finally become a student at USU, especially by joining the Faculty of Medicine. This has been my dream since childhood, to become a doctor. Through this PKKMB, I also feel more familiar with the values of the campus, especially regarding integrity and academic ethics, which are very important for future healthcare professionals. I hope to gain as much knowledge as possible and someday serve the community,"

Medan, 13 August 2025 – The atmosphere at the Mini Stadium of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) that morning was filled with thousands of new students wearing green alma mater jackets, creating a lively and energetic scene. With cheers, applause, and the opening music, the series of activities for the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) for the 2025/2026 Academic Year officially began.

A total of 7,961 new students were officially welcomed by the Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si. In his speech, he expressed his pride in welcoming them and placed high hopes on the new generation of USU students. The Rector also gave his appreciation to a number of outstanding students, such as the USU Horas Team, which won the energy-efficient car competition, the USU SDGs Team, which won an award at the ASEAN Interfacity Youth Competition, and the students with the highest scores on this year's UTBK Saintek and Soshum.

In front of thousands of participants, the USU Rector emphasized that this year's PKKMB theme, “Unlock Your Potential, Create Real Change,” carries an important message: students must dare to explore their potential, improve their academic achievements, and make a real contribution to society. He stressed that studying at USU is not just a process of obtaining a degree, but also a means to create innovation and solutions for the nation's challenges.

A similar message was conveyed by the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Dr. Brian Yuliarto, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., who attended virtually. He encouraged new students to act as agents of change and drivers of social transformation. Meanwhile, the Secretary of the USU Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Tamrin, M.Sc., in his speech highlighted the challenges of the brittle, anxious, nonlinear, incomprehensible (BANI) era, which requires rapid adaptation, high creativity, and strong integrity. He emphasized that human excellence must be built on things that cannot be replaced by artificial intelligence (AI).

PKKMB 2025 is not just a welcoming ceremony, but also the starting point of the academic journey for new USU students. Over the next three days, they will be equipped with materials on leadership, academic ethics, digital literacy, and national insight. This program is expected to produce graduates with character, global competitiveness, sensitivity to diversity, and a commitment to ethics and morals in every step they take.

One of the new students, Nadhifa Putri Nisrina, expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the PKKMB. "I am proud to finally become a student at USU, especially by joining the Faculty of Medicine. This has been my dream since I was a child, to become a doctor. Through this PKKMB, I also feel more familiar with the values of the campus, especially regarding integrity and academic ethics, which are very important for future healthcare professionals. I hope to gain as much knowledge as possible and someday serve the community," she said with great enthusiasm.
