Following the opening of the 2026 Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) by the Rector of USU at the USU Kembar Stadium on Wednesday (August 12, 2026), the series of activities continued at the faculty level. The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU) officially opened PKKMB FK USU 2026 at the 3rd Floor Auditorium of FK USU as part of the campus orientation program for 261 new students.
The faculty-level activities served as the next stage for new students to become more familiar with the academic environment, culture, student life, and various values that form part of the FK USU community. PKKMB FK USU will be held over three days, from August 12–14, 2026, providing students with an initial foundation before beginning their medical education.

The event began with a report from the Chair of the PKKMB FK USU 2026 Committee, Gilbert, who presented an overview of the program and the series of activities planned throughout the orientation. The event continued with remarks from the Chair of the FK USU Student Executive Board (BEM), Jasmine Khairunnisa, who encouraged new students to use PKKMB as an opportunity to build relationships, find a positive environment, and grow together as members of the FK USU community.
Next, the Head of the Undergraduate Medical Education Program at FK USU, Prof. Dr. dr. Rina Amelia, MARS, FISPH., FISCM., Sp.KKLP., Subsp.FOMC, delivered a message encouraging new students to prepare themselves for medical education, which requires commitment, perseverance, and integrity. She encouraged students to continue learning, develop their competencies, and build strong character as future physicians who are professional and committed to serving the community.
Meanwhile, the Dean of FK USU, Dr. dr. Muara Panusunan Lubis, M.Ked(OG), Sp.O.G, Subsp.K.Fm, emphasized that PKKMB serves as an entry point for new students to become familiar with the academic environment and culture of FK USU. He encouraged students to participate enthusiastically in the entire program, uphold integrity, respect one another, and take advantage of every opportunity to grow as members of the academic community and future physicians who can contribute meaningfully to society.

The opening ceremony was then marked by the ceremonial striking of a gong by the Dean of FK USU, symbolizing the official commencement of PKKMB FK USU 2026. The ceremony marked the continuation of the PKKMB program from the university level to the faculty level, following the opening ceremony attended by the new students and led by the Rector of USU at the USU Kembar Stadium.
The implementation of PKKMB FK USU also aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, particularly in supporting an inclusive, high-quality educational environment that encourages students’ potential development. Through academic and student-life orientation activities, new students are expected to develop the readiness needed to undertake their studies while strengthening their character, competencies, and ability to collaborate.
The opening ceremony concluded with a group photo involving faculty leaders, the organizing committee, and new students. The moment marked the beginning of the journey for 261 new students as members of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, as they continue the FK USU PKKMB series through August 14, 2026.
