Monday, February 3, 2025. The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FM USU), held a Junior Doctors' Oath-Taking Ceremony and P3D Socialization, with 247 students taking the oath. The oath-taking was conducted as the students were preparing to undertake medical practice at hospitals.
The event was attended by the Secretary of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG)., Sp.O.G., Subsp.F.E.R.; Dean of the Faculty of Medicine USU, Prof. Dr. dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe, Sp.S(K), accompanied by Vice Dean I, Dr. dr. Delyuzar, M.Ked(PA), Sp.PA(K); Vice Dean II, Dr. dr. Muara Panusunan Lubis, M.Ked(OG), Sp.OG(K); Vice Dean III, dr. Inke Nadia Diniyanti Lubis, PGDip.PID, M.Ked(Ped), Sp.A., Ph.D.; Head of the PSPPD Study Program, Prof. Dr. dr. Rina Amelia, MARS, FISPH, FISCM., Sp.KKLP., Subsp.FOMC.; Secretary of the PSPPD Study Program, dr. Dina Arwina Dalimunthe, M.Ked(KK), Sp.KK; as well as other members of the academic community.
In his remarks, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine USU, Prof. Dr. dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe, Sp.S(K), said that the junior doctors would enter a new and different chapter of their lives.
“As junior doctors, you will certainly enter a new chapter of life that is different from what you have experienced before. You must be prepared for the reality that during the next four semesters, you will have to learn to sleep at the hospital and be ready to be called by nurses even when you are sleepy. That is part of what we need to do as doctors,” said Prof. Aldy.
“Hopefully, these junior doctors will learn well, gain valuable knowledge, and eventually become quality and competent doctors who can be beneficial to society,” he added.
The Junior Doctors' Oath-Taking Ceremony and P3D Socialization aimed to ensure that students understand their ethics, rights, and responsibilities while carrying out medical practice in the field. This activity is in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, particularly in supporting quality medical education through the provision of knowledge, ethics, and competencies to students before they begin their clinical practice.
The implementation of medical practice by junior doctors in hospitals also supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by developing competent and professional future physicians who are expected to provide quality healthcare services and contribute to improving the health and well-being of society.
