Specialist Medical Education Program (Sp-1)

The Specialist Program in Radiology of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is one of the medical sciences that studies how to scan and diagnose the inside of the human body using X-rays, both in the form of electromagnetic waves and mechanical waves. This study program organizes radiology specialist doctor education based on the latest technology, and students are expected to have broad knowledge and skills in their fields.

The following is a list of graduate profiles found in Specialist-1 Program in Radiology

Most graduates will choose to work as radiologists in hospitals, with responsibilities that include examining and interpreting radiology images such as X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasounds to aid in the diagnosis of illness and injury, as well as providing consultation to doctors and patients.

Graduates of this study program can also pursue a career as an interventional radiologist. They will perform minimally invasive medical procedures that use radiology image guidance to diagnose and treat medical conditions such as embolization, biopsy, ablation, and stent insertion.

Graduates may choose to specialize in diagnostic radiology, which focuses on interpreting radiology images to support the diagnosis of disease and injury. They may work in hospitals, clinics, or other healthcare centers to analyze complex radiological images.

Additionally, there are graduates who may be interested in becoming pediatric radiologists. These doctors focus on the examination and interpretation of radiology images in pediatric patients. They have specialized knowledge in child-safe scanning techniques and an understanding of children's anatomical development.

Graduates may also work as oncology radiologists, specializing in interpreting radiology images to diagnose, monitor, and plan treatment for cancer patients. They will work closely with the cancer care team to plan appropriate radiation therapy.

Graduates who choose to pursue a career as emergency radiologists will be responsible for supporting the diagnosis and management of patients with injuries or urgent medical conditions through rapid and accurate interpretation of radiology images.

Graduates can also work as radiology consultants for the pharmaceutical industry, medical device companies, or radiology software manufacturers. They will assist in the development and testing of radiology equipment and provide training and technical support to healthcare professionals.

A Radiology researcher will be involved in scientific research to improve scanning technology, develop new image interpretation methods, or investigate new radiology applications in diagnosing and treating diseases.
