Specialist Medical Education Program (Sp-1)

The Specialist Program in Surgery of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Faculty of Medicine (FK), established on March 10, 1980, focuses on the science of organ surgical techniques education. You are expected to become a decision maker who determines, plans, and executes education and research independently to develop science to a higher academic level with students who are competent nationally and internationally.

Graduate Profile

The following is a list of graduate profiles found in Specialist-1 Program in Surgery

Graduates of this study program can work as surgeons in leading hospitals in the public and private sectors. They will be responsible for performing various types of surgeries, ranging from general surgeries to specialists such as cardiac surgery, orthopedic surgery, and oncology surgery.

As surgical consultants in private clinics, graduates will work with patients with complex surgical cases that require specialized care. They may also provide advice and input to general practitioners or other specialists on handling surgical patients.

As teachers, graduates of this study program can become lecturers or instructors in medical education institutions. They will be assigned to teach courses related to their field, guide student research, and engage in academic research. In addition, they may also supervise clinical activities and surgical practicums.

Graduates from this study program who pursue a career as medical researchers will work in research institutions or the pharmaceutical industry. They will be responsible for designing and conducting clinical research to develop new techniques and methods in the surgical process and improve surgical outcomes and patient care.

Graduates of this course can also pursue a career in international health as a surgical consultant. By working in international health organizations, they will be expected to provide surgery in developing countries and countries in humanitarian crisis situations.
