Thus, USU is the first university in Indonesia to be permitted to organize a master's education program (S-2) that is carried out simultaneously with the implementation of the specialist doctor education program. For the implementation of these activities, it is necessary to publish the Guidebook for the Universitas Sumatera Utara Faculty of Medicine Master's Program in Clinical Medicine. Later, graduates will get a Master's academic degree and a Specialist Doctor specialization/profession degree.

With the issuance of the decree, the introductory science lectures initially entrusted to the Master’s Program in Biomedical Science were transferred to the management of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Faculty of Medicine. Referring to the Decree of the Rector of USU No. 17015/H5.1.R/SK/SPB/2009 dated September 1, 2009, for mono-disciplinary study programs, the management is returned to the respective faculties, while multi-disciplinary study programs are still managed by the USU Postgraduate School. Thus, the Master's Program in Clinical Medicine is directly managed under the USU Faculty of Medicine.
