The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), once again demonstrated its contribution to the development of medical science through the participation of its academic staff in an inter-institutional scientific forum. Dr. dr. Ririe Fachrina Malisie, Sp.A, Subsp. E.T.I.A.(K), an academic from the Department of Child Health, FK USU, served as a speaker at a guest lecture organized by the Department of Child Health, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sriwijaya (FK UNSRI), on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

The academic activity carried the theme “Local to International Experience in Critically Ill Children Ventilation Management”. The theme addressed an important aspect of managing critically ill pediatric patients, particularly mechanical ventilation management. Through this activity, participants had the opportunity to broaden their understanding of clinical approaches to managing pediatric patients requiring ventilatory support, while developing practices and gaining experience at both local and international levels.
In her presentation, Dr. dr. Ririe Fachrina Malisie shared her academic and clinical experiences in managing critically ill pediatric patients. The discussion covered not only the technical aspects of ventilation management but also how healthcare professionals can adapt the application of clinical management principles to patient conditions and resource availability. These experiences provided insights into the importance of implementing evidence-based practice to support appropriate clinical decision-making.
The exchange of knowledge through this scientific forum was part of efforts to strengthen the quality of education and pediatric healthcare services. Discussions on ventilation management for critically ill patients also provided opportunities for academics and healthcare professionals to understand scientific developments and challenges in implementing optimal clinical management. This aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being, particularly in supporting improvements in healthcare quality and patient safety, including for children requiring intensive care.
From an educational perspective, the involvement of FK USU academics as speakers in an inter-university scientific forum also supports the continuous development of healthcare professionals' competencies. The transfer of knowledge and clinical experience provides participants with opportunities to enrich their insights and understand scientific developments that can be applied in medical education and practice. This is in line with SDG 4: Quality Education, particularly in promoting quality education, competency development, and lifelong learning for healthcare professionals.

The activity also demonstrated the importance of inter-university networks and collaboration in supporting the advancement of medical science in Indonesia. Academic interaction between FK USU and FK UNSRI provided a platform for sharing experiences, expanding academic networks, and opening opportunities for cooperation in education and healthcare. This spirit aligns with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, which emphasizes the importance of partnerships and collaboration in achieving sustainable development goals.
Dr. dr. Ririe Fachrina Malisie's participation in this activity reflects FK USU's commitment to continuously contributing to the development of medical science, both within its academic environment and through scientific forums with other institutions. Sharing local and international experiences is expected to strengthen a culture of collaboration and knowledge exchange while supporting the improvement of healthcare professionals' competencies in delivering safe, appropriate, and high-quality care, particularly for critically ill pediatric patients.
