Friday, July 21, 2023, the Faculty of Medicine of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU) received a visitation from the Indonesian Medical Council team in order to assess the feasibility of opening a Subspecialist Medical Education Program (Sub-specialist) Gastroenterohepatology, Endocrine Metabolic Diabetes, and Kidney Hypertension Department of Internal Medicine again. Also present were Vice Rector I for Academic, Student Affairs, and Alumni Affairs of USU Dr. Edy Ikhsan SH, MA, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of USU Prof. Dr. dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe Sp.S (K), Vice Dean I Dr. dr. Delyuzar, M.Ked (PA), Sp.PA (K), Head Dept. Internal Medicine Dr. Dina Aprillia Ariestine M.Ked(PD), Sp.PD, K.Ger., Sec. Dept. of Internal Medicine Dr. dr. Masrul Lubis Sp.PD-KGEH., and Head. Sub-specialist Study Program Dr. dr. Imelda Rey M.Ked (PD)., Sp.PD, KGEH., and other academicians.![]()
USU Vice Rector I, Dr. Edy Ikhsan SH, MA, stated that USU leaders are committed to the establishment of the third subspecialist Department of Internal Medicine. The Indonesian Medical Council team and Adam Malik Hospital support the department, which provides a good level of satisfaction and reviews records.
With initiations based on community needs, technological developments, and medical science developments, VR I hopes that the given academic response will result in three specialists in internal medicine with an orientation to strengthening public health.
The Chairperson of the subspecialist Doctor Study Program in Internal Medicine FK USU, Dr. dr. Imelda Rey M.Ked (PD)., Sp.PD, KGEH ensures that the competency standards of the 3 subspecialist study programs from internal medicine that will be opened, namely Gastroenterohepatology, Endocrine Metabolic Diabetes, and Kidney Hypertension are able to achieve the highest competence so as to achieve internationalization goals.
With the preparation of academic verification eligibility from lecturers, facilities and infrastructure, and the curriculum in internal medicine subspecialists, Dr. Imelda Rey M.Ked (PD), Sp.PD, KGEH hopes that more PPDS FK USU will be opened. The facts show that Indonesia still lacks many subspecialist doctors.
Referring to the transition from Hospital Based to University Based, one of the counselors, dr. Mariatul Fadilah, MARS, Sp. KKLP, PhD, explained the importance of PPDS candidates involving the Tri Dharma of higher education in preparing proposals.
