This achievement is not only a source of pride for the team but also marks a strategic advancement for the Faculty of Medicine USU in fostering its students' ability to compete at the global level. The delegation specifically expressed deep gratitude to Prof. Dr. dr. Yunita Sari Pane, M.Si, as their mentor, provided invaluable guidance and moral support throughout the preparation process until the competition took place.
The delegation from the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has once again achieved a brilliant accomplishment in the prestigious international event, the World Science Environment and Engineering Competition (WSEEC) 2025, organized by the Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA) in collaboration with Pancasila University and the Department of Food Science and Technology of IPB University. This competition was held in a hybrid format on May 14, 2025, in Jakarta, Indonesia, and was attended by 235 teams from 10 countries.
This event also serves as an important platform for young innovators to demonstrate critical thinking skills, collaboration, and mastery of science and technology in addressing global challenges.
WSEEC is an annual competition born out of educational needs in the Industry 4.0 era, where literacy skills, technological mastery, and scientific integration are key demands in producing an outstanding generation. This competition emphasizes scientific and technical aspects and builds cross-cultural collaboration networks, bringing together participants from various countries with diverse academic backgrounds.
This year, the Faculty of Medicine USU sent a flagship team consisting of three medical students: Liza Chairina Balchya Lubis, Jeanne Aprillia Sari br Simanullang, and Azzuhra Putri Siregar. These students collaborated with two students from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (Fasilkom-TI), Perwira Satria QD and Sabrina Marisi Siahaan.
This event began on April 15, 2025, with various rigorous selection stages, from the assessment of innovation titles to the collection and evaluation of full papers to the selection of finalists and online presentations before international judges. Through hard work, dedication, and intensive guidance, the USU team successfully won a gold medal, surpassing dozens of other participants from various countries.
