ICTROMI 2025 was designed as a platform for the exchange of scientific knowledge and experiences in the fields of tropical medicine and infectious diseases. Through a series of scientific sessions, symposia, and panel discussions, experts explored integrated approaches to the prevention and management of infectious diseases, including sepsis, pneumonia, and other global health challenges.

The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), successfully hosted the 5th International Conference on Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases (ICTROMI) 2025 under the theme “Sepsis, Pneumonia, and Beyond: Integrated Approaches to Infectious Disease Management Across the Lifespan.” This four-day international conference was held from Thursday to Sunday, 4–7 December 2025, at Santika Premiere Dyandra Hotel.

ICTROMI 2025 served as a forum for the exchange of scientific insights and professional experiences in tropical medicine and infectious diseases. Through scientific sessions, symposia, and panel discussions, participants examined integrated strategies for the prevention and management of infectious diseases, including sepsis, pneumonia, and other pressing global health issues. The conference also featured Prof. Stella Christie, A.B., Ph.D., Vice Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, as the guest of honor.

The ICTROMI 2025 program began with an intensive two-day pre-congress workshop, designed to strengthen participants’ capacity and competence through applied, evidence-based discussions grounded in the latest scientific developments in tropical medicine and infectious diseases.

The workshops featured speakers with recognized expertise and extensive professional experience in their respective fields. Participants were given the opportunity to engage in in-depth discussions, learn about the latest clinical approaches, and gain insights into recent research developments relevant to healthcare practice and scientific investigation. These sessions served as an important foundation ahead of the main conference and fostered broader scientific collaboration among academics, researchers, and healthcare practitioners.

Following the pre-congress workshops, ICTROMI 2025 continued with a symposium featuring speakers from both national and international levels. The symposium functioned as a strategic forum to address critical issues related to infectious diseases through multidisciplinary and up-to-date scientific perspectives.

During the symposium, which was attended in person by Prof. Stella Christie, she emphasized the importance of leveraging technological advancements alongside strengthening research capacity to drive innovation in the health sector. She highlighted ICTROMI as a strategic platform for introducing new methods and approaches to infectious disease management that are faster, more effective, and firmly grounded in scientific evidence.

“Strong scientific approaches that are easy to understand are essential so that they can be optimally utilized in efforts to treat disease,” she stated.

Prof. Stella further underscored Indonesia’s position as the world’s fourth most populous country, noting its significant implications for the dynamics of infectious disease transmission. Therefore, comprehensive prevention and management efforts are crucial to minimizing the impact of disease spread at both national and global levels.

Meanwhile, Dr. dr. Bastian Lubis, M.Ked(An), Sp.An-Ti, Subsp.TI(K), Chair of the ICTROMI 2025 Organizing Committee, explained that the event encompassed a series of activities, including workshops, pre-congress symposia, and the main conference, complemented by competitive sessions such as Turbo Talk, Poster Presentations, and Oral Presentations. The conference was attended by researchers, academics, and healthcare practitioners from various institutions and international networks.

“The conference brings together experts in their respective fields, and we are honored to serve as the host in facilitating international-scale scientific discussions,” he remarked.
