“The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia currently requires approximately 50,000–70,000 medical specialists. Therefore, newly inaugurated doctors are encouraged to promptly continue their education in specialist programs. These opportunities can be pursued through various pathways, including scholarships from the Ministry of Health or LPDP, as well as other government-supported funding programs, so that more graduates can help fulfill the national healthcare workforce needs,” said dr. Zainal Safri, Sp.PD, Subsp.KV, Sp.JP(K).

Medan, 26 November 2025 — The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held the Inauguration and Doctor’s Oath Ceremony on Tuesday (03/12/2024). The inauguration and oath-taking took place at the 3rd Floor Auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine USU. The Doctor’s Oath was administered by the Vice Dean II of the Faculty of Medicine USU, Dr. dr. Muara Panusunan Lubis, M.Ked(OG)., Sp.OG(K). The text of the Doctor’s Oath was read by dr. Hafizh Yuda Paleva and followed by all doctors being inaugurated. 

 

 

In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine USU, Prof. Dr. dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe, Sp.S(K)., stated that the tradition of the Doctor’s Oath ceremony witnessed together serves as a declaration of readiness for the newly inaugurated doctors to devote themselves to serving the community. He emphasized that this declaration should not merely be spoken, but must always be remembered, as the spiritual oath carries a profound impact on every alumnus from this moment until the end of life.

 

 

He also advised all newly inaugurated doctors to always uphold the principle of “Adab Dulu Baru Ilmu” (Character Before Knowledge), emphasizing that character forms the foundation of a person, and that high levels of knowledge must be accompanied by good morals and proper conduct. He further highlighted the principle of “Primum non nocere,” a fundamental concept in medicine and medical ethics, which underscores that a doctor’s actions must always prioritize patient safety.

 

 

The Chairman of the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Medicine USU, dr. Zainal Safri, Sp.PD, Subsp.KV, Sp.JP(K)., stated in his remarks that lecturers should continue to guide newly inaugurated doctors so that they may become professional medical specialists in the future. Continuous mentoring was deemed essential to enhance graduates’ competencies and ensure they are well prepared to contribute to improving healthcare services in society.

 

 

He added that the Indonesian Ministry of Health currently requires approximately 50,000–70,000 medical specialists. Therefore, newly inaugurated doctors are expected to continue their education into specialist programs. These opportunities can be pursued through various pathways, including scholarships from the Ministry of Health or LPDP, as well as other government-supported funding programs, so that more graduates can help meet national healthcare workforce needs.

 

 

Furthermore, remarks from the representative of the parents, Tiorita Br. Surbakti, S.H., conveyed her highest appreciation. “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all educators who have played a significant role in guiding and educating our children until they successfully completed their studies and earned their medical degrees. The long journey undertaken by the graduates would not have been possible without the dedication of lecturers, clinical instructors, and the entire academic community who have continuously provided knowledge, exemplary guidance, and unwavering support.”
