The Specialist Program in Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU) held a Specialist Insignia Conferment Ceremony for 13 Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine specialists, along with the introduction of five new specialists and three new subspecialists, on Tuesday, 10 February 2026, at Tiara Convention Center, Medan.
This event marked an important milestone in strengthening respiratory healthcare services in North Sumatra and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to producing highly competent and professional medical specialists.
Representing the Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, dr. Badai Buana Nasution, M.Ked(Ped), Sp.A(K), Secretary of the PPDS Academic and Professional Committee, delivered remarks expressing appreciation and pride in the achievements of the newly graduated specialists who completed their education with dedication and perseverance. He emphasized that future challenges in respiratory diseases are becoming increasingly complex, requiring specialists who are not only clinically competent but also adaptive to advances in medical science and technology.

“Today is not the end of the learning process, but the beginning of greater professional responsibility. We hope that the newly inaugurated specialists will serve as the frontline in delivering high-quality, ethical, and patient-safety-oriented respiratory care,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine Study Program, Dr. dr. Andika Pradana, M.Ked(Paru), Sp.P(K), emphasized that specialist education is not only about developing clinical competence, but also about building character and integrity. He expressed gratitude to the academic staff, teaching hospitals, and families who supported the trainees throughout their educational journey.
“We believe that today’s graduates have undergone rigorous academic and clinical training. May they contribute meaningfully to the management of pulmonary and respiratory diseases, both at the regional and national levels,” he said.
In addition, the Head of the Department, Dr. dr. Amira Permata Sari, M.Ked(Paru), Sp.P(K), noted that the introduction of new specialists and subspecialists is part of regeneration and the strengthening of human resources in the field of pulmonology. She expressed hope that collaboration between academics and clinicians will continue to grow in order to drive innovation, research, and improvements in the quality of healthcare services.
Through this activity, Universitas Sumatera Utara once again reaffirmed its commitment to producing and supporting professional, high-integrity medical specialists who are well prepared to address the evolving challenges of respiratory health.
