The Scripta Research Festival (SRF) of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), is a national-level scientific competition organized by SCORE PEMA Faculty of Medicine, USU. This year, SRF Faculty of Medicine, USU, collaborated with the Scientific Training and Organizational Skills Program (PK2O) to support the successful implementation of the competition. SRF FK USU x PK2O 2025 was held from February 5–8, 2025, carrying the theme “EINSTEIN: Empowering Innovation and Networking to Advance Metabolic System, Foster Public Health Awareness, and Educate Future Healthcare Professionals”. As in previous years, the competition featured four categories: Public Poster, Scientific Essay, Literature Review, and Oral Presentation.
The annual SRF FK USU x PK2O 2025 aims to create and support a scientific academic environment among medical students throughout Indonesia.
The implementation of SRF FK USU x PK2O 2025 is in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education by providing students with opportunities to develop academic abilities, research skills, critical thinking, and scientific communication. The competition also encourages a culture of learning and continuous capacity development among medical students.
The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, USU, Prof. Dr. dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe, Sp.S(K), represented by Vice Dean I, Dr. dr. Delyuzar, M.Ked(PA), Sp.PA(K), expressed his hope in his remarks that SRF could continue to be held in the coming years and attract more participants from various Faculties of Medicine across Indonesia.
“Through the various competitions held as part of SRF FK USU x PK2O 2025, I hope the delegates can further strengthen the spirit of research among medical students throughout Indonesia. The more universities that send participants to SRF FK USU x PK2O 2025, the more outstanding works we can discover. SRF is a positive activity that provides opportunities for new innovations to emerge,” said dr. Delyuzar.
The encouragement of research and the development of various innovations in the healthcare sector also support SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. Through scientific competitions, students are encouraged to produce innovative ideas and works that can contribute to the development of knowledge and provide solutions to various public health challenges.
On the second day, all finalist delegates participated in the final round according to their respective competition categories at the 3rd Floor Hall of the Faculty of Medicine, USU (February 6, 2025). The activity continued with a city tour to several destinations in Medan, including the USU Rectorate Building, Maimun Palace, and the Great Mosque of Medan. The day concluded with a culinary tour and LO time at Wajir Seafood and Sibolang Durian restaurants.
On Friday, February 7, 2025, the event continued with a national symposium featuring several speakers, including Prof. Rusly Harsono, MD., M.Sc., MBA., FAAP., DipABLM, CHEF, who presented “Diabetes Treatment in the Perspective of Lifestyle Medicine”; Bernard Adi Duanta Tarigan, S.Si, who presented “Utilization of Genomic Data in Diabetes Treatment”; Prof. Dr. dr. Dina Keumala Sari, M.Gizi., Sp.GK(K), who presented “Combating Obesity with Personalized Nutrigenomics Approach”; and Prof. Dr. dr. Dharma Lindarto, Sp.PD., K-EMD, who presented “Management of Diabetes Using Herbal Medicine”. Following the symposium, the finalists participated in workshops covering “Anaphylaxis in Children (Multiple Cases)”, “Neonatal Resuscitation”, and “pGALS Examination”. The third day concluded with a closing ceremony and announcement of the winners, attended by all finalists at the 3rd Floor Hall of the Faculty of Medicine, USU.
The symposium and workshops addressing various health issues also support SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. These activities provided students with opportunities to broaden their understanding of health challenges, strengthen their competencies, and gain insight into scientific approaches that can contribute to improving public health and well-being.
On the final day, the delegates participated in a city tour to Lake Toba together with the other finalist delegates. During the tour, the delegates visited several tourist destinations, including Parapat Free Beach, Lake Toba, the Tomb of King Sidabutar, a Sigale-gale traditional performance, and the Tomok Harbor Market. After completing the city tour, the delegates took a break for worship and returned to the hotel.
The participation of medical students from various universities in SRF FK USU x PK2O 2025 also reflects the spirit of collaboration and academic networking among institutions. This is in line with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through strengthening relationships among students, universities, and academic communities in supporting the advancement of knowledge and medical education in Indonesia.
