Specialist Medical Education Program (Sp-1)

The Specialist Program in Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is a study program that teaches skills to diagnose and treat patients who need anesthesia and intensive therapy, including critical patients and patients who need pain management through a quality learning process with an integrated curriculum and under the full supervision of educators.

With great pleasure, I am pleased to welcome you to the Specialist-1 Program in Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara.

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. Welcome to the official page of the Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy Study Program of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Faculty of Medicine (PS-ATI FK USU). As the Head of the Study Program, I proudly welcome you to our institution, which has the vision "To become a center for professional education in anesthesiology and intensive therapy that is of high quality with competitiveness at the national and international levels, which excels in the management of critical patients and pain management by 2024." We offer a quality curriculum designed to produce graduates who are competent in the anesthesiology and intensive therapy field, having 127 credits that exceed the national curriculum of the collegium of anesthesiology and intensive therapy with excellence in ICU and pain management. PS-ATI FK USU has been accredited with Excellent nationally based on Decree No. 0522/LAM-PTKes/Akr/Spe/VII/2023 since July 28, 2023. We have a competent and committed teaching staff with subspecialist and doctoral education dedicated to providing education as well as conducting research and community service that contributes to society. Graduate Profile

The following is a list of graduate profiles found in Specialist-1 Program in Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy

Graduates of this study program can work as anesthesiologists in general or specialist hospitals. They are responsible for providing general or regional anesthesia to patients undergoing surgery, ensuring patients remain safe and comfortable during surgical procedures, and managing perioperative complications.

Graduates can also open a private practice as consultant anesthesiologists where they will offer anesthesiology services for various medical and surgical procedures and provide pre-operative consultation and post-operative pain management.

Graduates may work in a hospital's intensive care unit, managing critical patients with life-threatening conditions. They will be tasked with monitoring and managing patients' vital functions, providing complex care, as well as working closely with the medical team to devise patient care plans.

Some graduates also choose to continue their careers as researchers or lecturers in educational or research institutions where they can teach medical students, conduct scientific research in anesthesiology and ranimation, and contribute to the development of better knowledge and clinical practice.

During my studies in the Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy Study Program of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Faculty of Medicine, I handled a wide variety of cases with varying degrees of difficulty. It was all conducted under the supervision and guidance of teaching staff who were experts in their fields. The variety of case types and difficulty levels greatly aided me in treating patients, both with treatment and action, when I work.
