Research Topics
Each research topic aims to improve understanding of cardiovascular disease mechanisms, identify effective prevention strategies, and develop novel therapies to improve patients' prognosis and quality of life with heart and vascular diseases.
Gene Therapy in Heart Disease
Gene Therapy in Heart Disease
This research examines the potential of gene therapy as a novel approach to treating heart disease. It includes the identification of genes involved in various cardiovascular diseases, developing effective gene delivery vectors, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of gene therapy in preclinical and clinical models.
Diet and Cardiovascular Health
Diet and Cardiovascular Health
This research studies the relationship between diet and heart disease risk, such as the effects of diets rich in fat, sugar, or salt on cardiovascular health, identification of healthy eating patterns that can reduce the risk of heart disease, and development of dietary interventions for cardiovascular disease prevention.
Psychosocial Risk Factors in Heart Disease
Psychosocial Risk Factors in Heart Disease
This research focuses on the influence of psychosocial risk factors such as stress, depression, and anxiety on cardiovascular health. Topics include the biological mechanisms underlying the relationship between psychosocial stress and heart disease, the measurement and evaluation of psychosocial risk factors, and the development of psychosocial interventions to minimize cardiovascular risk.
Inflammation and Atherosclerosis
Inflammation and Atherosclerosis
This study investigates the role of inflammation in the development of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease, which includes inflammatory mechanisms in atherosclerotic plaque formation, identification of inflammatory biomarkers as predictors of cardiovascular risk, and development of anti-inflammatory therapies for the prevention and treatment of heart disease.
Cardiovascular Genomics
Cardiovascular Genomics
This research studies genetic factors that influence heart and vascular disease risk, including the identification of genetic polymorphisms associated with cardiovascular disease, analysis of genetic susceptibility to cardiovascular risk factors, and the development of genome-based therapies for the individualization of heart disease treatment.
Heart Disease in Children and Adolescents
Heart Disease in Children and Adolescents
This research focuses on congenital heart disease and cardiovascular disease in children and adolescents. Topics include identifying risk factors and pathophysiologic mechanisms of heart disease in this population, developing noninvasive diagnostic techniques for early detection, and evaluating long-term outcomes of surgical or pharmacologic interventions.
Cardiac Rehabilitation and Risk Management
Cardiac Rehabilitation and Risk Management
This research studies cardiac rehabilitation and risk management strategies for patients with heart disease, such as the development of structured rehabilitation programs, evaluation of the effectiveness of behavioral health interventions, and identification of factors that influence patient adherence and long-term health outcomes.
Stem Cell Therapy for Heart Regeneration
Stem Cell Therapy for Heart Regeneration
This research aims to use stem cell therapy to regenerate heart tissue damaged by disease or injury. It includes the identification of the most effective stem cell types for heart tissue regeneration, the development of safe and effective stem cell transplantation techniques, and the evaluation of clinical outcomes of stem cell therapy in patients with heart disease.
Intended Learning Outcomes
In its daily operations, the FK USU Cardiovascular Medicine and Medicine Study Programs cooperate synergistically with other cardiovascular pillars in Indonesia, namely the Indonesian Association of Cardiovascular Specialist Doctors (Perhimpunan Dokter Spesialis Kardiovaskular Indonesia - PERKI) and the Indonesian Heart Foundation (Yayasan Jantung Indonesia - YJI), in sustainably conducting education, research, and community services. In doing so, the Cardiovascular Medicine Study Program can:
Produce high-quality graduates capable of developing science, technology, humanities, and the arts, based on morals and religion, as well as capable of competing at national and international levels.
Produce innovative research that drives the development of science, technology, humanities, and the arts in national and international scopes.
Produce community services based on reasoning and research work that are beneficial in advancing public welfare and enriching the intellect of the nation as well as innovative community empowerment, enabling people to independently and sustainably solve challenges.
Achieve adaptive, creative, and proactive independence in response to societal demands and developmental challenges, both nationally and internationally.
Enhance the quality of learning management in a sustainable manner to achieve excellence in national and international competition and cooperation.
Become a moral and intellectual force in building an Indonesian civil society.
Develop the potential of students to become human beings who are faithful and devoted to Almighty God as well as possess noble character, healthy, knowledgeable, capable, creative, independent, skilled, competent, and cultured for the benefit of the nation.
