Specialist Medical Education Program (Sp-1)

The Specialist Program in Clinical Nutrition of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) aims to train quality clinical nutritionists who can provide optimal nutrition services to the community. The comprehensively structured curriculum includes an in-depth study of clinical nutrition, medical dietetics, nutritional status evaluation, and nutritional management in various medical conditions.

Graduate Profile

The following is a list of graduate profiles found in Specialist-1 Program in Clinical Nutrition

Graduates of this study program can work as clinical nutritionists in hospitals or other health care centers. Their duties include evaluating patients' nutritional needs, designing and managing individualized diet plans, and providing nutrition education to patients and families.

For graduates who choose to open a private practice as a nutrition consultant, they will offer nutrition consultation services to individuals or groups, design customized diet programs, and provide support and motivation to achieve health goals.

Some graduates choose to pursue a career as a lecturer or researcher at a university or research institute. There, they will be tasked with teaching and conducting research in clinical nutrition, providing training to students and healthcare workers, and contributing to the development of nutrition science through scientific publications.

Graduates also choose to specialize as nutrition specialists in vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, or the elderly. Their duties include designing special nutrition programs, providing mentoring and monitoring, and conducting interventions to improve these groups' nutritional and health status.

Graduates who pursue a career as nutritionists in clinical research projects will be involved in planning and conducting nutrition studies, collecting and analyzing data, and compiling research reports that can improve the understanding and practice of clinical nutrition.

Graduates also choose to work as nutrition consultants in the food industry or pharmaceutical companies. They are responsible for developing healthy and quality food products or nutritional supplements, providing nutrition information to consumers, and ensuring product compliance with applicable nutrition regulations.

Graduates of this study program can also work as nutrition program managers in public health projects. They will design, implement, and evaluate nutrition programs for specific populations, working with government agencies or non-government organizations in disease prevention and health promotion efforts.

Some graduates also choose to pursue a career in the health industry, such as research institutes, health media, or non-profit organizations. They will be responsible for providing accurate nutrition information to the general public through articles, seminars, or social campaigns and advocating for policy changes that support better nutrition and health.
