Infectious disease research focuses on infectious diseases in the ear, nose, throat, and neck. It includes research on the epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of various infections, including sinusitis, otitis media, and pharyngitis. Meanwhile, oncology research is concerned with identifying risk factors, early diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with cancers occurring in the ORL-HNS department, such as nasopharyngeal, thyroid, and oral cancer. This research aims to improve understanding of the mechanisms of infectious and oncologic diseases and develop more effective prevention, detection, and treatment strategies.

Intended Learning Outcomes

The competencies that must be mastered by graduates of the Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Specialist Program of FK USU are not only specialists in nature. They must also master basic competencies which can be fulfilled with high professionalism with an evidence-based medical science approach.

Master the basics of disorders and diseases of otorhinolaryngology-head and neck, general clinical theory, and examining skills; Understand techniques for dealing with emergencies in the field of otorhinolaryngology-head and neck; Understand general surgical principles, sterility, preoperative preparation, and postoperative care; Understand basic research methodology, statistics, computers, and English.

Master special otorhinolaryngology-head and neck clinical knowledge; Master the skills of examining and treating patients in polyclinics and inpatient rooms in general; Master the skills of performing anesthetic techniques for local operations in KB otorhinolaryngology-head and neck; Master the knowledge in the field of anatomical pathology, radiology, and anesthesia related to otorhinolaryngology-head and neck diseases.

Master special otorhinolaryngology-head and neck clinical knowledge; Master the skills in examining and treating patients at the sub-section polyclinic and determining the indications for surgery; Master the skills in carrying out light and moderate operations in the sub-section; Able to compile and present scientific essays in the form of literature reviews, case reports and journal readings in scientific forums; Know the basic theory of research and thesis writing; Able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired after attending the Temporal Bone Dissection course; Able to write and present research proposals in scientific forums; Able to guide young doctors in senior clinical clerkships in the field of otorhinolaryngology-head and neck surgery.

Able to apply operating knowledge and skills at designated satellite hospitals, as well as compile and present scientific essays in the form of literature reviews, case reports, and journal readings in local, national, and international scientific forums.
